Guest guest
Mother's Day [in the US that is] is coming right up, so naturally she will be the focus of this week's group questions. QOTW [questions of the week] for May 6th - 12th: 1. When you were living home, would you say your Mom was a good cook or skilled in the kitchen? 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, how would you rate the food served in your home when you were growing up? [if another family member did most of the cooking, who were they and how would you rate their cooking?] 3. Did this person [Mom or who ever] cook anything that you would consider their signature dish or family favorite that to this day just the thought of takes you back to being a kid again? 4. Did your Mom teach you how to cook any special meal, dish or dessert? [hint: we'd all love the recipe if it is vegetarian or you have adapted into a vegetarian item]

She was an average cook. > 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, how would you rate > the food served in your home when you were growing up? Overall, it was a 5 or 6 with some dishes being a 10. > [if another family member did most of the cooking, who were > they and how would you rate their cooking?] > 3. Mom's Banana Pudding! She made it from scratch...none of this packaged pudding stuff mixed with bananas. YUMMO!! > 4. Did your Mom teach you how to cook any special meal, dish or > dessert? [hint: we'd all love the recipe if it is vegetarian or you > have adapted into a vegetarian item] Mom taught me how to make tomato gravy. The rest of my dishes I came up with myself learning from cookbooks, friends, and experimenting in the kitchen. >
Guest guest
1) Umm, NO! 2) 5, tolerable most of the time (it didn't kill me) LOL 2) probably meatloaf...had it EVERY week 4) Luckily I got my cooking from my Grans, I think it skipped a generation lol my Grans is from Alabama so even the veggie dishes had pork fat in them. She taught me to make an excellent roast, chicken and dumplings...which I don't make anymore. I do however make yellow squash about twice a week for my lunch the same way she did...minus the bacon grease of course Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos.
Guest guest
1. When I was little (under 12 or so), I thought my mom was the best cook. She was really into homemade breads, canning, gardening, and organic produce. Way to go mom! Then as a teenager I became indifferent to her cooking and wanted to cook myself, so I kind of lost touch on her skills. Now when I visit she tries to accomodate my Husband and I (both Vegan) and she does pretty good. She is shy about using strong spices, so I've had fun showing her some of my ideas. 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, the food served at my home growing up was a strong 7. My dad was really into dried fruit, so that was fun to learn about. I've recently gotten into dried fruits. 3. My mom has a few signature dishes now, enchiladas, spanish rice and a good bean salad. Growing up things were pretty simple, green beans with garlic and onions was a common dish. Baked potatos with toppings, Taco salad bar, and 15 bean soup, were common for dinner. For snacks we ate a lot of peanut butter and brown sugar mixed in a tea cup, or on sliced bread, and sliced banana's in soy milk and brown sugar too! Those last two take me back................ 4. I cook more now than my mom does, but growing up she had us (my brother and I )cook once a week. But it wasn't anything fancy, just usually salads, with soup or pasta. Sorry, no amazing recipes to report. Heidi > QOTW [questions of the week] for May 6th - 12th: > 1. When you were living home, would you say your Mom was > a good cook or skilled in the kitchen? > 2.
