QOTW: Vegetarian travel tips?

Our questions of the week [qotw] for July 22nd - 28th:

1. Are you planning any road trips or vacations this summer?

2. What are some travel tips you have used or plan to use that

will make dining as a vegetarian easier while on the road?

For all the new members, these weekly questions are for

everyone and just for fun and sharing. Please feel free to

jump right in by participating. If you haven't yet taken the

opportunity to post an introduction, you can do so any time.

We'd love to get to know you better and help with any questions

you might have. :)

i just got back from spending 2 weeks in texas. we

are heading to virginia beach for a few days on

tuesday.

i took some food (dried fruit, nuts, organic ceral

bars, granola, crackers, etc...) with us to texas in

case we needed it. we spent a week in austin and it's

a very veggie friendly city - i ate at some wonderful

restaurants.

i try to avoid " american " restaurants when eating

out....ethnic places, esp. indian and thai usually

have lots of veggie options.

i'm researching restaurants that will be near our

hotel in va. beach...that way i have an idea of what

places will offer items that will work for us. i'll

take snacks and fresh fruit with us too. :)

Yes! I've already driven from Virginia to Florida so far this summer, and have a

trip to Reno and the Outer Banks in August.

My tip for travelling? If you're in a car- BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS!!!

We are avid campers and have a VW camping van with stove and fridge,

but wherever we go it is not hard to find options. Most every large

grocery store has a salad bar and bakery. Meatless options are

becoming more mainstream all the time. We stay out of restarants,

preferring to buy and prepare our own food. Even someone who does

not have cooking or storage facilities can make salads, sandwiches,

cold cereal with soy milk and fresh fruit, raw veggies, etc. Buy no

more perishables than what you can eat in one meal.

Great ideas, Ellen.

Must be fun having that VW camping van

and being a real highway rambler. :)

One thing that is so nice about the veg diet

and eating outdoors is that the wasps & yellow

jackets don't bother my plate; they seem to

go more after the meat on other's plates! *lol*
