Guest guest
Thanks to one of our members Kyra, we have some new interesting questions of the week. QOTW for July 29th - August 4th: Which books have had a tremendous impact on your lives? [more on topic, your vegetarian lifestyle or which may have been inspirational to your chosing to become a vegetarian] Which books have impacted the way you eat, respect Mother Earth, Love and Laugh and Live? And lastly: What cookbooks are your absolute favorite and inspire your vegetarian cooking? ~ PT ~ When I have something to say that is too difficult for adults, I write for children. They have not closed the shutters and like it when you rock the boat. ~ Madeline L'Engle
Guest guest
Slaughterhouse reinforced my vegetarianism. It's phenomenal. As for cookbooks, when I first became a veg I used " Teens vegetarian cookbook " , but now I will use whatever I can get my hands on! At the moment I have about 100 dog eared tabs in Vegetarian Times Cookbook, and there are tons of things I'm waiting to have time to cook in " Vegan Handbook " . If only I could get a day off of work... ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll Sunday, July 29, 2007 1:25:19 PM QOTW: Inspirational books for vegetarians? Guest guest
1 & 2: I've been a committed veg for about 30 years, but reading Dominion by Matthew Scully recently confirmed my choice. It's dense, however, and one must be willing to take some difficult journeys with Scully. I have loved every Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson book I've ever read. I plan to read The Pleasurable Kingdom by Johnathan Balcomb soonish. 3: I like Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, some things in Laurel's Kitchen, and the most recent Vegetarian Times cookbook. However, I have no common sense for cooking and like to cook infrequently and honestly, I've been more INSPIRED by The Feral Veg, Vegetarian_Group, Tofu-Recipe, hummus-and-pesto-recipes and Garden-of-gourmet-spicy-vegetarian-eatin (it's okay to mention these, right PT?). There are more TNT recipes in these groups and I like being able to ask questions (since I can't always figure out something that everyone knows). Also, I've tried a few new foods or learned what to do with old reliable foods. I've always loved fried/baked tofu, for example, but who knew there were so many ways to make it? Guest guest
I've been using my slow cooker (crockpot) a lot more recently and my current favourite cookbook is Fresh From the Vegetarian Slowcooker by Robin Robertson. This has some wonderful recipes that are fairly straightforward to veganise. I liked her recipes so much that I recently bought Vegan Planet - haven't had a chance to cook from it yet but there are so many wonderful looking recipes that just reading it feels like devouring a feast.
