The plan, called the DASH diet, favors fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat milk and plant-based protein over meat. Women with those eating habits were 24 percent less likely to have a heart attack and 18 percent less likely to have a stroke than women with more typical American diets. http://health./news/ap/diet_heart_benefits.html Here's to lots of great healthy vegetarian meals for our families, Judy
Guest guest
Nice article Judy--thanks. The only thing I'd like to say about it is that realistically there is NO such thing as " low-fat " or " non-fat " milk; dietary institutions should KNOW this and be pushing soymilk, rice milk or almond milks instead. I mean think about this: the purpose and intent of milk is to increase the weight of a baby CALF tenfold within 6 months of birth! Given this HOW can it possibly be made to NOT be fattening? Milk has just as many health hazards as meat does--we shouldn't be drinking it! DO you realize we are the ONLY species on the planet that drinks the milk of another species? I mean seriously--whose idea was it to drink cow's milk anyway, and if it was all that great for us why don't we drink cat's, dog's, gorilla's, or giraffe's milk? Food for thought! I've been on meds for high cholesterol/triglycerides for years. I had bloodwork a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time EVERYTHING was in the normal range, in fact, cholesterol and triglycerides were never this low! And I had cut back on the meds a few months back, even before I changed my eating habits. I'm impressed. And I feel so much better. Having a group like this with so many TNT delicious recipes has certainly made it easier than I thought! Jann
