I was trying to find a site I saw refried bean powder on but instead found a

recipe for making refried bean powder from dried pinto beans. Has anyone tried

doing this? I tried grinding the beans up in my blender but the results were

iffy at best. No way am I going to use my coffee burr grinder - I prefer my

coffee to taste like coffee rather than pintos.

Here's the recipe. (Going to try it using true dehydrated beans not dried beans,

after my order gets in.)

3 cups dried beans, any variety

1 Tbsp. ground cumin

1 Tbsp. chili powder

1 Tbsp. salt

1 Tbsp. dried minced onion

1 tsp. cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp. pepper

PREPARATION:In a coffee grinder, food mill or blender, grind beans until they

resemble flour. Mix all ingredients together in a medium bowl until they are

well blended. Store mix in a large airtight container or jar in a cool, dry

place.

To use:

3/4 cup Instant Refried Beans Mix

2-1/2 cups boiling water

Combine bean mix and water in a medium-sized saucepan. Mix with a wire whisk

until combined. Mixture may be lumpy. That's okay; they will just add texture to

the finished product. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring frequently, cover pan,

reduce heat to low, and simmer for 4-5 minutes or until thickened. Mixture will

thicken as it stands.

I have never heard of it, but it sure sounds good.

I think I would use dehydrated cooked beans too.

They would be more like an instant refried beans

mix. :)
