Alice,

I had the same problem. Have you thought about using the " digest "

feature? You get the emails in one message.

Dear Rashunda,

Perhaps that would work for me, and I could file the digests until I have an

opportunity to read them.

The egg art list I belong to thru which a lot of my business comes,

generates about the same amount of mail, and it takes me the first few hours

of each day just to wade through it all.

Can you just put me on the digest mode, or should I just go and

re-?

I have already filed a couple of recipes I would like to try.

Thanks,

Alice (Eggcetera)

For those of you who wish to change to the digest mode

or " " , just go back to -- then

select the " group: " -- then select " MY PROFILE " .

Another option to consider (if you're loaded down with email), would

be to read all the messages at the egroup site. In other words, DO

NOT receive any email from the group -- stay a member and check in

when you want to catch up.

BTW, " Hello " -- I too am a new member and will try to play catch up

with everyone ASAP.

Hi Everyone,

I too am a new member. Am interested in finding veggie recipes that

I can incorporate into a meal for myself, while feeding a meat loving

husband.

He admits he doesn't feel well after eating red meats, and I don't

either. I am perfectly willing to go meat free. He on the other hand is

not. I am interested in foods that will be mainly for me, but available

for him to try if he chooses to do so.

How have others of you dealt with this problem? When I met my

husband, I was down to eating only chicken and fish, and cutting way back on

them as well.

He was a professional chef at the time, and it wasn't long before I was back

to my old bad habits, even though I knew I felt better when avoiding red

meat especially.

You may not hear from me often, but be assured that I will be

" listening " .

Cheers,

Alice

Orzotto: Barley from the Region of Friuli

Venezia Giulia, Italy

Recipe By :La Terra Fortunata: Fred Plotkin

Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time

:0:00

Categories : Grains

Amount Measure

Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

3 tablespoons

extra virgin olive oil

3 tablespoons

unsalted butter

2 tablespoons

minced onion

2 tablespoons

minced scallion or chive

10

ounces pearl barley

4

cups cold water (spring or distilled) -- brought to a

boil

2 tablespoons

freshly grated cheese -- heaping measures

Aged Montasio or Parmigiano-Reggiano

fruit or vegetables (optional) -- see tip

1. Combine olive oil and butter in a wide 4-quart pot and heat over

low

heat, taking care not to burn the butter. Add the onion and scallion

and

saute gently until the onion is translucent.

2. Add the barley and increase the heat slightly. Toast the barley

for

about 5 minutes. Add the boiling water, 1/2 cup at a time. When

1/2 cup

has been absorbed by the barley, add more. Continue until all the

water

has been absorbed. At a certain point the barley will yield some

of its

starch, making the dish more creamy. If it is dry, add some softened

butter, perhaps a drop of milk or cream, and the grated cheese.

3. At this point, add the optional ingredients. The total time for

making

orzotto should be about 25 minutes.

OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS TIP - "Vegetables work very well and herbs

are

perfect. All sorts of mushrooms go well with barley, as do" ...dried

fruit.

Re: Mexican Cabbage

Am I missing something? Is this a list for adults or children? I've

never encountered so many references to religion & being offended

by

"grownup" talk. I might be on the wrong list.

Mindy,

You can do that via the upper right hand corner of your screen. You

can either " leave this group " or I think you can also edit your

membership. :-)

Yep there is no moderator to do it. You can ask all you want but only

us chickens hear you. You simply go to the group and click edit my

membership. It will give you the option to leave the group. Might

want to check out the moderated version under the move post. It has

no porn or spam emails. 's help should explain how to leave if

you looked.

Here's the little helper at the end of my digests:

That should do it without having to even visit the actual

group's homepage. :)

This footer is at the end of every single email the group sends out.

You can remove yourself that way, or via the web if you read the

group that way (edit membership details on the right hand side).

Hello GM

to from a list on , one has only to send a blank

email to -

You can copy and paste that link into your own email program

You can also at the bottom of this email which says Change

Your Settings, log in to and slick on in groups.

makes it a real hassle for group owners to people and

since you subbed, you will probably find it easier to also unsub yourself.
