Bumbleberry pie???

The local health food store had Ivy Rae's Great Little Pie Company's Bumbleberry

Pie in the

cooler. I did a double-take with " Bumbleberry " !! Last thing I'd want in a pie is

bumbleberries!!! Then I realized that I was thinking of " Dingleberries " (which

are QUITE

different), so I bought the pie and now am in bumbleberry heaven.

Now I've just got to find a bumbleberry tree at the nursery, so I can grow my

own.

.........

To be honest, I had never heard the term " bumbleberry " before yesterday but

eventually

realized it's a made-up word coined to describe a MIXTURE of fruits in a

pie--mine had

strawberries, blueberries, tart apples & raspberries but one can use whatever

one has--

An online baker said, " A while ago I received a request for " Bumbleberry Pie " . I

had never

heard of such a thing, but after some research discovered that this i s a

category of pie

which mixes fruits and different kinds of berries. I've tested the recipe with a

variety of

fruit and berry combinations, including blueberries, blackberries and

strawberries, with or

without rhubarb, with or without apples all with delicious results. Just be sure

to have a

total of 5 cups of fruit. "

LMAO @ dingleberries!  Quite different, indeed!  :)

I've never heard of bumbleberry, but this is so relevant to me right now.  My

son and I just went to this berry farm today and picked pounds of berries.  I

got red raspberries, black raspberries, blackberries (they are huge, bigger than

my thumb), blueberries, and sour cherries.  I also got some peaches.  I just

pulled my cherry pie out of the oven.  I'll post the recipe when I get a

chance.  I'll freeze most of my berries, and I think I will make a " bumbleberry "

pie for Saturday.  Yum!

Thanks for the inspiration,

Susie

FWIW, the bumbleberry pie I bought wasn't quite like a normal pie:

it was almost like cobbler in that the crust only came up partway over the top,

leaving the

middle mostly fruit.

It made it impossible to cut into nice pretty, Martha Stewart slices, so I just

ladled it onto a

plate and enjoyed myself.
