Guest guest
Hi! I just joined this group. I'm a longtime vegetarian, having gotten my start back in the granola days of the 70s. I've ventured into veganism twice, but love of cheese brought me back to lacto. Nowadays I consider myself a near vegan, but I'm still in love with some dairy, mainly cheese and yogurt. However, I use nondairy milks, coffee creamers, and ice cream and I'm very happy with them. I got started with vegetarianism out of concern for world hunger, which developed after reading Lappe's Diet for a Small Planet. Nowadays I'm more motivated by environmentalism, which makes me at least limit dairy. I never was a health nut, though I appreciate the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. I'm also not an animal rights person, but I am concerned about animal welfare. I won't buy anything new that's leather, but I'm using old leather stuff until it wears out to be friendlier to the earth. I don't want just to throw stuff out that's still useful. I'd have to get new stuff, and new stuff manufacture is part of the danger to the environment that we humans engender. But, OTOH, I understand why vegans get creeped out by leather and dump their old animal skins. Life is complicated, isn't it? A lot of the time there isn't one right answer. I love talking about issues surrounding our choices in the world, and I'm looking forward to conversations with all of you. Cheers, Trish

Guest guest
Mostly were just getting heavy rain and alot of flooding; as far as the actual storm it pretty much weakened from a hurricane down to a tropical storm, so it looks like we've lucked out again for the most part. Thanks for asking! bantrymoon <bantrymoon wrote: Hi! Nice to meet you. I live in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. Is that big storm affecting you down there?
