I can't tell you how many times I have seen vegetarians use this product unaware

of the ingredients.

It does contain lard.

Here's their link on ingredients:

Hi Audrey,

The Martha White paper pouches of Cornbread Mix, is all vegetarian.

and you can substitute it in any recipe that calls for Jiffy Mix. It makes up

the same amount. Your recipe can be made using this product. It is found near

the Muffin Mixes that are in the paper pouches.

Here's to lots of fun cooking.

Thanks for letting me know! Yuck! :(

Actually, I used a store brand cornbread mix, HyVee. I still have the box,

will check when I get home. I always check rice and noodle packaged foods,

and frozen foods, lots of them have chicken fat. I didn't think a baking mix

would, though...

Keep a look out on the ingredient lists of

those quick bread mixes because there ARE

some good brands out there that do not

contain animal fats and instead use a

vegetable shortening.

There is a brand I find at Wal*Mart that is safe

to use, and also one I find in Fred Meyer stores

called Krusteaz that is vegetarian. :)
