Bread Pizza

This is a dish I used to make even as a kid in India. When I was growing up

pizza was not as easily available in India as it is now. To satisfy my pizza

cravings I would pile up some toppings on a slice of bread; sprinkle with cheese

and bake in the oven for a few minutes. Voila! my very own personalized pizza

was ready. I made it last night and it was a hit.

Ingredients

Bread slices & #65533; 4, crust removed

Cooked sausage & #65533; 1, chopped

Mushrooms & #65533; & #65533; cup, chopped

Tomato & #65533; 1, chopped

Cheese grated & #65533; & #65533; cup

Butter

Method

Butter the bread and arrange the toppings as desired. Sprinkle with cheese and

bake in a preheated oven at 375O for 5 min.

Notes

I used homemade brown bread. The bread was a little dense and holds up well when

piled with toppings. If using sandwich bread I would suggest using one which is

a couple of days old. It would have less moisture in it than fresh bread.

I sliced the bread fairly thin to create a thin crust feel. It was nice and

crunchy.

For toppings you can use just about anything you like. I used to use leftover

curries too as toppings on my pizza.

It is a nice way to use leftovers and fun for the kids to assemble their own

special pizza. Lay out all the ingredients in an assembly line and let everyone

choose their toppings. My 2 year old loves to help me in the kitchen and he had

fun last night putting together his pizza

I'm confused, isn't this a raw board?

Are you sure the bread, sausage, and cheese are raw? What happens when it is

baked for 5

minutes. Does that kill the enzymes :) ???

Also, is that vegan sausage you are using?

Hi Bryan:

I think Geeta got lost somehow, with her meat and cheese

pizza, and wound up giving us something to think about.

I did " instant pizzas " with English muffins, cheese, ketchup,

and pepperoni when I was a kid.

Seeing this recipe made me think about those old instant pizzas.

Then I realized that I have been doing similar things with my

crackers.

First you need some dehydrated crackers (choose from among the

many recipes on the list website, or use one that you already have)

If you want to make " pizza bites " , just make little small crackers.

If you want more substantially-sized pizzas, score your crackers

3 " x3 " .

While you are waiting for the crackers, make up some pecan " sausage " :

1 C pecans, soaked

1-2 t lemon juice (to taste)

1 T olive oil

1 t celtic salt

1 t cumin

1/4 t black pepper, ground

1/4 t hing (or garlic to taste)

1/4 t marjoram

1/4 t oregano

1/4 t sage

1/4 t turmeric (optional)

In a food processor, process all ingredients fine, or " crumbly " .

Use as is (I do), or spread out on a teflex sheet and dehydrate

for 1 hour at 105 degrees.

For cheeze, you can choose from among the cheeze recipes in the list

recipes (cheddar, ricotta, etc.)

TO ASSEMBLE:

put some cheeze on the cracker.

put a bit of the " sausage " mix over the cheeze.

Put a fitting slice of tomato (or tomato sauce if you choose)

sprinkle some pizza spices and/or herbs on top if you choose.

ALTERNATELY you can just look up some of the pizza recipes on

the list website and do those.
