Hello!

Congratulations on discovering raw and your success so far!! That is

amazing! Good for you!

The nuts may very well be causing the problem, many people find them

difficult to digest. You should be careful to not combine them with fruit,

they combine best with veggies and greens. You might want try soaking them

before hand to see if that helps.

Also, if you are eating a lot of difficult to digest vegetables like

broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tough greens like kale and collards, etc,

you might want to cut way back on those and focus on tender greens that are

easier to digest like lettuces and baby spinach.

Wishing you all the best!

I had similar probs w gas & bloating on nuts & seeds --- i rarely eat

them any more. So I'd tend to think that you are correct -- I'm not

a Dr.

Apples tho -- I'd rather hear that you tried a banana day or week!

If you haven't studied low fat Raw, please look into it for your

health. Apples have a lot of pectin etc and are more difficult for

us humans to digest on a regular basis. I eat them now & then -

everyday or the only food can give some of us other issues - esp IBS

ppl.

(typing w 1 arm in a sling today - hope there aren't too mny typos)

Simply,

Lesa

btw: I've let go of 120#s w/ raw lifestyle! Experience to share,

just ask.

First off, you are NOT GUILTY!

If you are eating raw, what could be wrong with that?

There are a number of " theories " out there, but the first one

is EAT RAW. Start there.

FEEL POSITIVE.

>Also big on Kale and Carrots so will make the change.

What change do you have to make from kale and carrots?

Who has told you you cannot combine these two?

What is the reasoning?

Try reading Herbert M. Shelton's _Food Combining Made Easy_,

or the simple chart in Ann Wigmore's recipe book (see the list

database for the name). You can eat carrots and kale together, no

sweat. I've been doing it for years... I started out with Wigmore,

and later read Shelton.

To tell you the truth... and many people will revile me here...

if you are eating raw... that is the most important thing.

What you eat will tell you what to eat.

Sometimes you will eat something that doesn't work for you...

you might think... oh... this raw thing is stupid, or for the birds.

Actually, when something doesn't work, you should just not do that

again.

It is all experimental/experiential.

There are all sorts of " experts " , and " gurus " out there, who are

" re-interpreting " what has already been done.

Eat and see what works for you.

If you are committed to the idea of raw and something is sending

you back to cooked, examine it.. what is it? what is it you want?

find the way to what you want.

for example:

sometimes you might eat something that is perfectly good

according to whatever you know, but you are CRAVING something you

used to eat... what was the factor in that?

ex: I do a green drink in the morning... sometimes I

positively CRAVE the old egg sandwich... what is missing? protein?

no... my shake has that...

I'm missing OIL... add in a T of flax oil. I'm good to go the next time.

What can I do in the meantime? Oh Lord -- where can I find an avocado

in 15 minutes????? I will just have to wait...

SOLUTION... put flax oil in the stupid shake in the morning, and be

done with it... If I am eating raw, high fat is not an issue. If I

just can't get over that high fat business, then, fooey! I will add 3

T ground flax seed, so I am getting protein AND the fat that is

causing me the problem....

Maybe I should get a few " theory " books. I had no idea there were

food combination rules. I thought as long as it wasn't cooked and was

vegan it was okay.....

It is. ;)

You can find books with these theories, but

they seem like so much pseudo-science to me.

isnt it all science? Isnt there things we should not

mix for fear of their composition no longer being

The theory behind food mixing has to do with the amount of time that

different types of food take to digest. For instance, different

types of fruit take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, while

meat and protein can take 4-8 hours to digest. By properly

combining foods, you eliminate the need for using excess digestive

energy. This is also important because if you mix foods inproperly,

fruit, for example, will ferment in your digestive system because

they are being held in your stomach with food that takes longer to

digest than they would otherwise. This can cause gas, bloating,

pain, etc. In the book The Raw Food Detox Diet, Natalia Rose states

that one of the benefits to eating raw is the substantially less

amount of time it takes to digest raw produce versus cooked food,

especially meat. As someone who is not vegan- or vegetarian for

that matter- this idea appealed to me much more than the argument

that eating meat is unnatural and inhumane. I have since read

several other books which contain more in-depth information about

how long different types of food take to digest. While I haven't

been overly conscious about properly combining food, I try to make

sure that I eat fruit separately from other foods. This is the

excuse I give myself to be able to nibble of fruit all morning long

as I feel hungry or tired. :)
