Guest guest
Pls can you give me some examples of a day's eating? I am not interested in recipes - just combining raw fruits, veggies and nuts. I am very new at this and need some help. Thanks.
Guest guest
Hi Michelle, Welcome and congratulations on discovering raw food!! You're body will love you for it. I frequently just eat mono meals (one thing per meal) of fruit. It is simple, easy and delicious. A meal for me will typically be an entire melon, 5 or 6 bananas, 15 dates, 5-6 little mangoes or 3 or 4 large ones. Fruit smoothies are very easy and fast to do, as well as simple salads. My favorite salad is romaine lettuce, tomatoes and mango. I also really enjoy romaine lettuce, cucumber, and tomato topped with a dressing made from fresh orange juice blended with an avocado. Delicious! Guest guest
The only food combination to keep in mind is: Eat fruit on its own, not with or within 3 hours of a regular meal. Really quite simple! Sometimes I simply eat fruit the whole day....it is wonderful! Calories are probably the worst marker of nutritional value out there. Calories only become important when you eat lots of dead and cooked food, but with fruits and veggies they don't really mean a thing. Fruits and veggies are the foods highest in NUTRITIONAL value...they completely blow any other cooked or processed food out of the water in that regard, yet they are very low in calories. To some people, this means that they provide poor nutrition, but nothing could be further from the truth! A calorie is NOT a quantity of nutrition - it is actually a purely abstract quantity, i.e., heat energy, and this has NOTHING to do with how much energy it provides your body. In fact, I would say the higher the caloric content of a food, the less bodily energy it provides. Eating a fruit doesn't make you tired with its 50-100 calories, but the equivalent weight/volume eaten from a high calorie food will make you sleepy and drained. So, count your calories (if you want) when you eat dead food, but forget about them forever when you eat raw! Joe rawfood , " Michelle Smith " <michellesmith0 wrote: > > Thank you so much! Guest guest
Hi Michelle, In my personal experience the only two combining rules that I noticed a difference with were don't combine fruits and fats and don't combine melons with any other food. I frequently eat melons for breakfast for that reason. You should always eat them on an emptly stomach. I don't think you need to worry about calories too much. I know that you want to lose weight but it is important to stay satisfied and full so that you don't get tempted back into cooked foods. Eat lots of fruits, be moderate with your fats (nuts, seeds, oils, avocados, coconuts) and get some exercise and you should do great!! :-) Most people lose weight very easily on raw. Some people need to be stricter about cutting back their fat intake. See how you do for awhile and then you can adjust accordingly. Guest guest
Can I be a little more direct? Thanks so so much for all the input - I really appreciate it. I have 90 pounds to lose and have done raw for a week now. I feel great. I realize I have a sugar addition of some sort. Anyway, I feel fantastic raw! I put my calories for the day into a database and found I was only consuming 1000 calories at best per day - is this a problem? I am not doing this for weight loss as such but more or less to take charge over my health. Guest guest
Yeah, the sugar addictions are the worst. It took my gf many months to overcome, but I am sure you will do better..I mean, with all respect to said gf!! haha Satisfy that sugar addiction by eating lots of sweet juicy fruit all day! So thats the perfect example of why calories are not a good measurement of nutrition. It is not a problem at all. In fact, reduced caloric intake is one of healthiest things you can do for the body, and as you point out, it happens naturally when you eat raw. You are getting ALL of the nutrition you need from eating a variety of raw fruits and veggies. However, as far as calories go, 1000 is a little low. But if you're eating as much as you want (of fruits and veggies), then thats fine. You don't have to restrict your eating when eating raw...eat as much as you like, of course without over-eating (meaning causing your tummy to be too full at one time). Fruits and veggies have this effect that the more you eat, the more weight you will lose. I am serious, try it! No need to feel hungry! And of course you provide lots of health-giving nutrients to the body too. Guest guest
That might have been confusing... I mean it is great that you are feeling full eating raw, thats great! But, don't stuff yourself, that stretches the tummy out and things like that. Spread the food out more, and only eat if you feel like it. Don't eat beyond what you want, just to get higher calories! That would be the worst! We are all very happy to help! Joe rawfood , " Joe Postma " <joepostma wrote: > > Okay well then you are doing GREAT! Guest guest
Hi Michelle, I let go of 120#s last year! A few suggestions - yes, make friends with your bananas (often helps w/availability and costs) and with fruits and veggies. When people ask me how I let go of so much weight I often tell the that " fruits and veggies are our friends! " they are. I kept my calorie intake between 1200 and 1500 per day - the people who professionally do diet stuff say that's pretty safe calorie intake in order to loose about 2#s a week - someone thinks that's pretty safe. I know from experience it works. I did keep my fat intake low - using Nutridairy.com to track and aiming for the fats (olives, coconuts, avocados, nuts & seeds) to 10% or lower on average. There were times when I was hungry in the begining until I started checking my calories which I discovered were under 1000 some days - thats when I made friends with bananas - they are more calorie dense and I just start my day with fruit - which could be bananas depending on money or what's available and then lunch most of the time is bananas or a banana lettuce/or spinach/or celery or something green smoothie, then dinner is usually a banana smoothie followed by a big salad or zucchini 'pasta' meal. The bananas added the extra calories that I really wasn't able to get with other fruits or veggies. I find that between 1300-1500 calories I feel really satisfied - have NO hunger, no cravings, no addictive stuff - when I have a day (which does happen here and there) when my calories are under that, I usually am more attracted to the smells of cooked foods (I live in NYC!) or have the urges to snack or even find that I watch other people eat (weird or what? lol). I like the way I feel at 13- 1500 calories. I'm still working on kicking my activity level up a notch - I have been doing some research on loose skin & flabbyness and I'm finding that if we keep the calories up and activity level up properly we can let go of weight without our bodies showing any wierd outward signs - loose skin is really a sign that we are changing our weight in a not-so healthy way ---- our bodies are very much able to heal themselves - all of themselves! (NO plastic surgery in my future!) Let me know how else I can help or be of encourgement. I struggled alone for 6-7 months before I found a raw support group which has been sooooo very helpful along my path. These have been a wonderful addition to that support as well. Keep it Simple, take what you need and leave the rest - get outside and remember fruits and veggies are our friends! lol Simply, Lesa

Guest guest
Bearing in mind I live in a colder part of the world, I wouldn't consider giving up hot<ish> tea for anything. The sheer psychological COMFORT of a hot cup of tea at 'those times' of the day....etc. But I now drink white tea without milk, and have not had sugar with any such 'beverages' for years. White tea is milder to drink black, and better than green for antioxidents. rawfood , " Michelle Smith " <michellesmith0 wrote: > > Great! Thanks everyone!! What about tea? Guest guest
people try to eat fatty foods and dehydrated treats and those are what sabotage the efforts to stay raw Wait a minte,so you don't ever eat any dehydrated treats? Is it so bad? I really like my flax seed/vegetable crackers.... and they are so easy to take places like a movie theater with me for a snack while everyone around me hits the concessions... ______________________________\ ____ We won't tell. Guest guest
I took watermelon to the movies a few times, now I don't really care about eating while watching a movie. I'm kind of into doing one thing at a time. I have thought about taking celery 'popcorn' - a suggestion a couple of us had thought of - I haven't actually taken it with me yet but it would work. I love cutting up celery with my kitchen sissors - less mess, no cutting board to wash and just snip, snip it's all done -- for 'popcorn' size pieces I'd cut the stalks in half lengthwise so I get smaller cubes and put it into a nice paper bag or something - or pick up a couple empty popcorn boxes from the movies 1st. Dehydrated snacks - well, occasionally I use sun-dried tomatoes, raisins, black mission figs or dates. I once in a blue moon have a Mock Tuna Sandwhich from Westerly Market's Raw Deli -- sunflower seed 'bread' w/almond pulp & veggie filling. That's about it for me. Guest guest
you lost 120#'s in one year? That is awesome! congratulations Lesa <ljbn wrote: Hi Michelle, I let go of 120#s last year! Keep it Simple, take what you need and leave the rest - get outside and remember fruits and veggies are our friends! lol Simply, Lesa Terry Lynn Bakhtiari May God bless you Today and always. www.terrywithpcos.blogspot.com Need Mail bonding?
