Guest guest
Hello my fellow raweans... I'm new to the culture and taking it day by day, inch by inch. I'm a heavy set meat eater, and just to recap, I went on a raw foods retreat and came home wanting to start changing my life. So it's been a month and in a month I've gotten a vitamix, food processor, some cutting boards, lots of fruit cutters and such. This afternoon I go to pick up a dehydrator. YAY, I'm on my way! So yesterday I decided... Why wait any longer? I cleaned out my cupboards and went grocery shopping. I had to get new everything, well, most things. Condiments, vegetables, fruit, some spices.... I went so far as to get a Kundalini dvd and two raw foods books. Well, anyway. I was so embarrassed. I bought all this food and had to ask where everything was because I never really shop at that store. Everyone else had little red baskets with small items in them and I was pushing around the monster cart packed high with EVERYTHING! LOL. When I saw what it rang up for I thought that it was before discount or some other rate. I asked the lady behind the counter was the price, which was 250 or so, listed FSM mine? She said, no, that's food stamp members, yours is below. 520 dollars!!!! OMG... I was like, oh God, this is the drawback! When she finished and added in my membership the total came to about, 489 or so. I said to myself, this is just the first trip, it'll get cheaper as I go to replace small items. Right???? Maybe I just overshopped. I'm used to living with 3 people and now it's just me... I dunno, Anywho, I'm big on shopping and never cooking the food I bought and wasting money. My mom used to fuss about it all the time. All this investment! I made green juice last night! and plan on making it EVERYDAY using all the fruit I bought! I think I'm just gonna soak some nuts now, so as soon as I get home, I can prepare food. I'm not wasting this!
Guest guest
Good for you...Now you have everything you need! You are so lucky to be able to afford all of that! Congratulations! Be grateful that you had the money for the setback! Dont worry it will get cheaper...you will find some stand by recipes and your bill will go way down. If the Kundalini is with Gurumuk (sp) you are in for a butt kicking treat! I am also new to raw foods...been dabling a year and only been serious for about two weeks. Once I made the decision to really committ...its been great. I am doing it even if my husband and kids arent...this is for me and I deserve to live in healht and I REALLY CARE about the planet and being vegan (and raw ) is the best thing I can do to save the environment so says the UN. Anyway I am really excited for you and I know you will not regret your purchases. In Light Love and Health, AMber debrenanicole <debrenanicole wrote: Hello my fellow raweans... Guest guest
I know what you maean, it is so much more expensive. I shop for a family of 5, and until about 2 weeks ago, all the veggies I bought were frozen. If I bought fresh with the best of intentions, something would come up that night then I would forget about them and then something would go bad before it was used up. Now we are eating fresh instead of frozen for the most part, (still have alot of frozen fruits) and I find that it is necessary for me to do small shoppings for a few days at a time instead of once or twice a month. But I haven't done a big shopping to start with. I am just slowly incorporating more in. I already had a dehydrator for my garden produce, and a blender and a juicer that I won as a door prize, so I did buy a spiral slicer and since before going raw most of the food was already organic, that wasn't too much of a change. I try to plan meals around what fruits/veggies are in season and so at a lower price. Karen in WA debrenanicole <debrenanicole rawfood Tuesday, April 10, 2007 8:43:02 AM [Raw Food] OMG 400 bucks! Guest guest
Hi, I am in England and I live alone so don't get to use up larger portions of fresh fruit or vegetables before they go bad. I got some of the Green Bags which absorb the gases given off by the ripening process in fruit and veg and which also promote rapid spoiling. Keeping one type of produce in per bag I find I can, eg keep beautifully spotlessly yellow bananas like that for up to 3-4 WEEKS. Same with shop bought selections of salad leaves, empty packet into a Green Bag and they can be kept crunchy for a few weeks. These I got from QVC shopping channel, but there ARE other versions and other products made with the same sort of mineral stuff which you could find by searching around. The bags can be rinsed and re-used up to about 8 times. They are a brilliant idea. And very cost effective when you consider having to throw so much uncooked, therefore unpreserved, food away. Hope this helps? V rawfood , Karen Bates-Earnest <nini2033a wrote: > > I know what you maean, it is so much more expensive.
