Guest guest
Good day all, I am just embarking on this amazing journey and have a few questions: If you could only eat five things what would they be(meals not ingredients ,please) How much do you spend a week on food? What do you do with young coconuts?(I drink the water and so far just eat the meat. What is your favorite green juice to make at home? (I have a greenstar juicer) What was the best advice you recieved when you first went raw? Thank you for taking the time to enlighten a newbie. May God bless you. Guest guest
Hi MamaP, Welcome and congratulations on discovering raw!! Now I pretty much eat all fruit, but when I first went raw my five favorite things were: Mexican salad: romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, and raw corn kernels topped with raw salsa and raw guacamole. Delicious!! ZUcchini noodles topped with marina sauce ( I think Alissa Cohen's marinara recipe is the best) zucchini noodles topped with raw pesto pesto stuffed mushrooms (marinate the mushrooms in some namu shoyu or itilian style dressing first) marinated portobello mushrooms topped with guacamole A delicious milk shake I made with the water and flesh from a young coconut, several frozen bananas and a couple of tablespoons full of almond butter. Amazingly delicious and guaranteed to stop any cooked food craving! :-) I never cared for any green drinks. But I did throw some greens in some fruit smoothies. A yummy soup is to blend up some carrot juice, avocado, purple onion, spinach and season as you like. Wishing you all the best! Guest guest
I pretty much agree with you, Audrey, as to what I liked when I first went raw. My tastebuds have changed, though, and I don't want the heavy stuff so much any more. I usually have at least two green smoothies a day now. MamaP, as for how much I spend a week, I have no idea. It varies a lot according to what I get low on. I try to buy in quantity so I get better deals. I like coconut just the way it is, though I have made Coconut " Bacon " once and will do it again one of these days. I use the more mature coconut that I freeze. I like to eat the meat that is still " spoonable " . I don't juice. I blend. I feel there's a lot of nutrition in whole foods and extracting just the juice sells it short. The best advice I ever got was to leave off grains and follow 811rv. Not that I always follow 811rv but I'm trending that way. Good luck, MamaP! You're right that this is amazing! Guest guest
Thank you both for taking the time to answer my question. We have a " super " blender on our list..maybe when we finish school or a miracle I still believe in those...in any case thank you again. I made banana and coconut " pudding " it was ok. I think I prefer simple food -just the way God made it you know. I am thinking about doing a juice fast for a while..we will see.... rawfood , " hopesentral " <hopesentral wrote: > > Good day all, > > I am just embarking on this amazing journey and have a few questions: > > If you could only eat five things what would they be(meals not > ingredients ,please) > > > How much do you spend a week on food? > > What do you do with young coconuts?(I drink the water and so far just > eat the meat. > > What is your favorite green juice to make at home? Guest guest
It refers to Dr. Doug Grahams plan for eating (something like 80% sugar, and 10 % both protien and fat)-I have hear some mixed things about it--like any " raw " food plan you have to find what works for you. What works the first few months may need to be tweeked for the next six or tweleve months , at least that is what I have found since starting my research...hope that helps.. rawfood , " Dana Tautz " <wlkn2mo wrote: > > rawfood , " Tommie " <jerushy@> wrote: > > > The best advice I ever got was to leave off grains and follow 811rv. > > Not that I always follow 811rv but I'm trending that way. > > Uuuhhmmmm, what's 811rv? Guest guest
80/10/10 by Dr. Doug Graham means that you aim for an average of 100% of your calorie intake over a period of time to be broken down into 80% carbohydrates, 10% fats and 10% protien. Using an online diet tracking system like Nutridiary.com or fitday.com will help anyone begin to visualize what they are aiming for and I believe makes this a more successful journey in the Raw lifestyle. The healthiest way to do this is concentrate the majority of your food/calorie intake by eating whole, ripe, fresh, organic (if you can) sweet fruits and tender fresh greens. The other suggestions, as best I understood them, were to aim for these amounts where ever you are along a healthy diet plan. If you are eating cooked foods, aim for the healthiest version of those which is steamed and aim to keep the 80/10/10%'s in the same range. The major key to success is limiting your fat intake. A second key to success is increasing the amount of sweet and calorie dense fruits. I had to re-adjust my thinking so I could accept that a meal might consist of 4-5 bananas or 2-3 mangos or 3-5 oranges for myself. I think a third key is tracking your diet for a period of time, I use Nutridiary.com personally, what I (and some friends) noticed in the first week, was that I was not consuming enough calories to sustain myself, that also is when I learned to eat more fruit which increased my calorie intake for each day. Personally I aim for between 1200-1500 calories per day as I have been letting go of weight and have just begun increasing my activity level. I may have to adjust again as my activity level does increase and I'm sure that I will notice it first with real feelings of hunger. I no longer track my diet on Nutridiary.com each day, instead, I now use it every couple weeks to monitor my progress. I hope all of this is helpful. Please take what you need and leave the rest. Keep it Simple, travel light and use what you already have! Simply Lesa http://LesaNeSmith.vpweb.com
