I realise this is primarily a vegan forum, but I hope it's OK to share my thoughts on this here. What I'm sure is definitely NOT OK is to drink pasteurised milk from 'milk factory' cows that are destined (with their babies) for the meat industry, and to drink milk that has been heated (ie pasteurised), as the Essene Gospel abhors flesh eating and the heating of food. Raw, unpasteurised, milk has been banned in the UK (although I understand the royal family drink it, as they have their own herds!). But, it is possible to obtain it 'under the counter'. I get a little raw goats milk from a farm once a month. The goats are well looked after, their graze is organic, and they are not slaughtered later(had to check, as I know goat is eaten in the West Indies!), and the farm only lets me have some if there is any left over after the kids have had their requirement. (I also have a little pasteurised goats' cheese, in my 25% 'non-raw'; no excuse for that - just helps if I'm eating out). I've read quite a lot about this, including Gabriel Cousen's article (I think he was the author) about raw goats milk, and, I think, his conclusion that, ideally, we shouldn't be drinking it, but, weighing up everything I've read to date, feel happy at present that raw milk (a pint a week)is a small part of my diet, reserving the right to change my views in the future on further information! Guest guest
If you haven't already, you might want to read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D.: http://snipurl.com/1b57x It provided the final push I needed a year ago to finally (had been considering it for a while) go from lacto-ovo vegetarian to vegan. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog rawfood , " deborah164951 " <thisgeneration wrote: > > ***I've only been raw (75%) for two months, but my main inspiration > was The Essene Gospel of Peace, in which it says we may eat 'the milk > of beasts'. Guest guest
China Study is a great book! If you read Enzyme Nutrition by Dr. Edward Howell your education will be complete. You will realize the missing factor in food which will increase your life and make you healthier.Raoul
Guest guest
I agree. Read The China Study. The Essenes have a lot of good information, but just because we " may " drink something doesn't mean we SHOULD. Once again, if you wouldn't latch on to an adult cow in nature, then it's probably not natural. Also, as an adult, you wouldn't nurse off another human adult woman. That is more natural, if you think about it. As an adult you don't require milk at all, and certainly not of another species. Think of the above scenarios.... :-) Erica Albanese School Of RAWk Certified Raw Nutritionist, Health Coach & Raw Chef Freelance Writer & Advanced Practitioner of The Living Foods Lifestyle Eugene, OR (541) 915 - 1995 SchoolOfRAWk www.SchoolOfRAWk.com - Coming Soon! Guest guest
raw dairy is very popular and highly used in Weston Price circles. Like any raw food, it has the enzymes to digest it intact. My understanding is that since the enzymes are present, mucous formation is not a major issue. Of course each person's digestion differs. I have heard/read of many cases of asthma, allergies, bronchitis and other such ailments being " treated " or " cured " with raw milk, especially in children. I would encourage anyone interested in learning more to google Sally Fallon, who is local and a leader in the field, or to nose around the Weston A. Price site.
