Guest guest
I have an excaliber that I love but they are a tad pricey ...the only thing I would suggest if you do buy any model of dehydrator is to find one where you can control the temperature .. some lower priced models only have 1 setting .. Guest guest
The excalibur is what we have too. We bought the 10-12 tray? I didn't realize how BIG it was. But I have 4 kids and use it a lot. Whatever you buy, just a suggestion to measure the space it will take up. Guest guest
It takes about 36 hours give or take a few for me to get it to where I like it Jenn --- Shay Butter <sheabuddah wrote: > for how long? Guest guest
Thats not bad at all. Thanks your method takes up less counter space and only needs solar energy Thats works for me! --- rawfood <cajenda wrote: > It takes about 36 hours give or take a few for me to > get it to where I like it > > Jenn > > --- Shay Butter <sheabuddah wrote: > > > for how long? It sounds like your process will take > weeks. It takes about 2 days to make raw sprouted wheat bread crackers (i.e., very thin). It's all I've ever done so far. (I couldn't give up bread. That's why I made it.) Today I'm buying a cauliflower and have an air dryer shelf set up to hang from a picture hook on the wall inside because it's cloudy out. I'm looking at secondary heat sources (like above the radiator) for the winter. It's still a work in progress, but however long it takes, that's how long it will take, as I don't want to use any $energy$.
Guest guest
sounds like a lucrative invention. --- rawfood <yankeeharp wrote: > rawfood , Shay Butter <sheabuddah wrote: > > > > Btw, I cut holes in some plastic covers, sewed some > > netting over them > > > and put them under netting out in the air and sun > > for my dehydrator. > > > > > > for how long? Guest guest
Hi Shay, I have the 9 tray Excaliber and it is great. It does NOT fit on my counters or in my kitchen cupboards. When I use it, I put it in an out of the way place on the floor near an outlet. I just made some dehydrated sweetpotato and lime chips. They were just o.k. I think newbies (including me) get overexcited about recipes and appliances. Just eat some fruit! Marjorie www.rawgreenmama.blogspot.com rawfood , Shay Butter <sheabuddah wrote: > > thanks jenn! Guest guest
rawfood , Shay Butter <sheabuddah wrote: <<> sounds like a lucrative invention.>> I'm giving it away free to humanity :-). It's just making a drying space out of stuff I have around the house and -- ideally -- stuff that would have been thrown away otherwise (plastic containers). I tried putting the cauliflower in a net bag and hung it above the gas pilot overnight. The dried cauliflower tasted OK, but it couldn't take the place of popcorn. But I'll try some more and see what happens. Using the great outdoors can be inconvenient at times, though. I have a south-facing window and I'm thinking of how I can put a framework in there to hold the net shelves.
