Guest guest
Hello everyone! I've been very active in reading the posts on this group, and researching raw food for a while now......but I still have some questions. My first one is that I am having a really difficult time making the transition. I know that part of it is because of my job- I am a social worker and my schedule gets flopped around quite frequently so even when I plan it doesn't always work out that I end up with my food when I actually have time to eat, or whatever. I have also always had a really unhealthy relationship with food, and have several " addictions. " I have tried the transition foods, but to be honest, I already ate a lot of those as part of my diet. I have a feeling that I'm going to be one of those people who has to go all the way at once, but I have heard thats not wonderful for your body. Anyway, I would love some tips on how to change over to a mostly raw diet. I may eventually become 100 percent raw, however at this time, my husband won't do it, and I absolutely love to cook for him. So, yeah, tips would be helpful. I've seen a lot of conversation about raw foods helping with medical problems, and have found research to back that up. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with raw foods helping with mild anxiety and panic attacks. Anyone know what foods will help balance seratonin in the body? Can a food help with that? Alright, thanks for your time, Kerri
Guest guest
Hello Kerri, I know exactly where you are coming from. I suffered from anxiety, panic attacks and depression as well as several major health conditions (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, IBS) and they have resolved completely on raw!! :-) I have my life back now! I used to not be able to drive on the freeway due to panic attacks and now I take classes at a college campus that is 70 miles away! It amazes me. I am happier now than I have ever been. Raw will definitely help you with those issues. I coach people with emotional eating issues and use to be a compulsive over eater and junk food addict and find that many times it is easier for people with addictive behavior tendencies to go 100% and stay there simply because leaving the door open for cooked food in small amounts tend to encourage them to keep on letting more and more slip in. :-) This isn't the case for everyone though. Don't worry too much about a severe detox. Many people experience only minor detox symptoms or nothing at all. Wishing you all the best! Guest guest
I wanted to ask how long it took for you to get over the anxiety part, in general. Or if it was one thing at a time. I have reached a point where the anxiety is better, however part of my problem is that even though I've cut down drastically on my meds and was OFF the meds, I went back on them because I'm not healed enough. I know people will have a variety of opinions on this, but this was important. You'd have to be in my body to know what a crisis event is. I went off the meds for 2 months, went through a bad withdrawal and thought it would be ok. I really went slowly downhill. What I did was too much at once. I went off the meds slowly tapering before I went raw, then I went raw... and the list goes on. I'm on a really low dose of a couple of medications and that's ok right now. There are just times I wonder why I am raw. Going back to cooked isn't an option. I think I'm in a slump. None of my raw-ness seems to be like anyone else's experience. From what I read, everyone is feeling great and have clarity and are pain-free. Guest guest
I know of a lot of people who have said that due to the toxicity of their past diets, their level of medication, etc.. that going 100% was just too much for their bodies all at once. The withdrawal and the low times can be too much. I read something really obvious that makes a lot of sense... no matter what other people say you need to go into this thinking that it's a long term life decision and it's better to ease into it than to throw your body in head first. There is a lady named Angela Stokes who is English and she tried going 100% raw overnight. She did well for a while but then found the detox too intense. She was 80 - 90% raw for a while and allowed her body to transition. She says that it's far better to transition for life than to keep going back and forth and I think that is very true. rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of The Grrl 10 May 2007 05:23 rawfood Re: [Raw Food] A couple of questions...I'm new to raw foods! Guest guest
Hi I agree completly. I started out at 100% raw and was sick within 2 weeks. There was too much toxin in my body for me to cope with this and continue to be civil to my family. So I cut back to 50% raw, 50% veg. and am working my way back. For me detox was and still even at this level is harsh. I am literally allergic to my own sweat because of the toxin's that are being released. I have had massive moodswings, and violent tendences and moments of complete irrationality. Muscle spasms, abdominal cramps, and swolen lymph nodes. None of which the doc. could explain until I told her of my diet change. She checked me out on what I am eating and approved of my choices pointing out that I need to eat enough iron...lol. The point is each of our bodies will react diffrently to this diet and each of us must make this life change for ourselves and our bodies. We are unique and can not mass market what is good for the individual. That is part of the whole point. Thanks Joysain
Guest guest
I appreciate the input greatly. There are people who have entered in the raw food lifestyle not only eating a SAD diet, but also have taken a variety of meds that have been stored in our bodies. When we go raw and cleanse, we don't know what is releasing into our systems at any given time. It can be old meds. It can be an illness that we stopped in it's tracks without letting it run its course. Think of all the medications a person has taken in their lifetime and what combonations could be releasing. It may be easy for one person, but it has not been easy for me. I think my slump and my anxiety is more cleansing. Cleansing for me is pain and the lovely sweating profusely but being very cold. Now a new person reading this, don't get SCARED. This is my body having this reaction. Many people have an easy time or notice a few symptoms. A lot of people choose this lifestyle and have a great time with it. The cleansing gets easier as it goes along, for me. Now when I go through little bouts, it's uncomfortable, but ok. Thanks again Tanya Michelle Smith <michellesmith0 rawfood Thursday, May 10, 2007 3:30:20 AM RE: [Raw Food] A couple of questions...I'm new to raw foods!
