Guest guest
Hello all! I've always been interested in the raw food lifestyle for several years and now I'm really anxious to give it a try. I'm currently expecting my first baby any day now. But I was wonder what you all thought about the raw food diet while breastfeeding? I've read a few things here and there that does NOT recommend a raw food diet for nursing women. However, I was wondering if it would be safe to implement the raw foods moderately. I was thinking of eating raw fruits/veggies/salad for most of the day and then a cooked dinner at night. Would this kind of moderate diet make me lose weight too quickly? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciate. Thanks! -Brenda
Guest guest
Hi Brenda, Years ago, I decided to stop reading most things. My thinking and sense of clarity have improved greatly as a result. :) Your baby, both now in the womb and after birth via breastfeeding, will be composed ENTIRELY of whatever YOU eat. In other words, what you eat becomes the raw material your baby's body CAN use to construct itself. Therefore choose only the very best inputs ... for yourself and for your baby. Simply reach some conclusion about what is the most healthful way to eat, then eat that way. From my own perspective, that " most healthful way to eat " means whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic or better fruits and greens, one food at a time or in simple combinations. These foods--and for the most part ONLY these foods--are high in water, oxygen, fuel (simple sugars), soluble fiber (but NOT insoluble fiber), vitamins, alkalizing minerals--the essential nutrients we need to live as the vital, vibrant beings we are designed to become. For some truly wonderful information that may be useful to you right now, I invite you to listen to our free teleconference entitled " Home Birthing and Raw Food " , available at http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs <http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs & Events/Special/HomeBirthing & RawFood--O ct.11.2006CE--PathOfHealth.mp3> & Events/Special/HomeBirthing & RawFood--Oct.11.2006CE--PathOfHealth.mp3 Best, Elchanan PS: I publish most of my posts in the PathOfHealth Group. _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of rumcakecat Wednesday, May 09, 2007 10:38 AM rawfood [Raw Food] Raw food diet and breastfeeding Hello all! There is no such thing as losing weight too quickly after having a baby :-). Your plan sounds OK if you are planning on including some animal food, cooked or raw, in your diet. Be careful what you tell people about any unorthodox eating regime you may have while you are breastfeeding.

Guest guest
What were you reading, and why do they not recommend a raw diet?? What nutrients could you possibly miss out on? Have you ever visited Jinjee's web site? If not, here's a link, which might be of interest to you: http://thegardendiet.com/jinjee.html Good Luck! Guest guest
This may sound surprising, but just as hydration is a cornerstone of the rest of health, so, too, it is a cornerstone of breastfeeding. If you eat healthfully, you need never concern yourself with any specific nutrient. The whole almond thing is a very misdirecting myth, all they do is slow the mother's digestive system down considerably. But high water-content foods, and if needed just water, are the ticket. And of course, high water-content foods are fruits and greens ... and definitely not nuts or seeds. Cristy, sounds like you are having a challenge eating enough calories. Bananas are a big winner in that regard.
