Guest guest
Hi D'vorah, First, my apology for not responding sooner. Apparently I have finite bandwidth. :) Second, thanks for this great question ... why do I suggest what I suggest? :) From my recent post entitled " Day 2 of going bananas! [Dobby] " : Fruits (with exceptions such as avocado and olives) are very high in water content, very low in fats. They are low caloric-density foods, that is, there are far fewer calories per bite in fruits vs. almost all other foods--grains, nuts, seeds, and so forth. So we need to relearn how to eat much more than we are used to consuming, in terms of volume (size) and mass (weight, so to speak). Most fruits consists of 90% percent water. In contrast, bananas contain about 70% water, give or take. This is plenty of water to enable us to properly digest the bananas (though they move a bit more slowly through our digestive tract than do higher water-content fruits.) At the same time, this makes bananas a bit more " concentrated " : whereas bananas are indeed lower in caloric density than most nonfruits, they are nevertheless higher in caloric density than most fruits. So we can get more of the fuel we need ... more calories ... per bit of banana than per bit of most other low-fat fruits. Bananas are readily available yearround, relatively inexpensive and stable in price, and they are one of the relatively few fruits that genuinely ripens off the tree. (Ripening on the plant is ALWAYS advantageous.) In a somewhat larger sense, the human body is an acid-forming, alkaline-seeking machine. By this I mean that virtually all activity--physical and mental, conscious and subconscious/metabolic--produces acidic byproducts. Therefore, we suggest building your program upon a base of SWEET fruits ... not just any fruits. These are fruits who content AND digestive ash are particularly high in alkalizing minerals and low in acid-forming minerals. Bananas are from among the " sweet fruits " . Why watermelon? Many people report unpleasant digestive challenges. Typically, these result from long-term misuse of the digestive tract, resulting from consumption of substances that system was not designed to handle. Watermelon is almost entirely water ... about 97% by mass. Watermelon is also VERY alkalizing, containing only tiny quantities of any acid-forming minerals. (Some are present, else the thing wouldn't be alive. High water-content foods digest the most rapidly. Highly alkalizing foods restore our system most rapidly and completely. Watermelon is the perfect combination of these factors. Hope this brief explanation helps! Chiming in...is there any particular reason for banana or watermelon? What are the properties that contribute to healing? Will this also be a good choice for a detox? Thank you in advance, D'vorah ______ Elchanan <Elchanan wrote: Dobby, If you actually want to get past this, then go on a monodiet of bananas only for a week. Eat only organic, ripe bananas, eat whenever you feel hunger and until you feel " full " (I realize you need to relearn the distinction between satiation and what most people call " full " .) That is ALL you need to. As an alternative, you can do the same with watermelon. One food--a sweet fruit--for one week, then write again. Oh, and leave some extra time for resting, you may need it!
