Guest guest
I have not posted here.. in fact I have only been a lurker but have learned oh so much! I was a vegetarian and was on the road to raw when I joined. I can now say through this board, I am pretty much vegan and am on my second day of all raw. I read and listened to your posts about the spit test and ugh.. as I thought, I was positive. I decided to give the banana diet a try. I belong to a diet site to help me get back on track and loose these last now 6 pounds...I joined yesterday.. they have a " community " of raw foods called 'raw foodies'. In my daily journal, I posted that I am going bananas for health reasons but never went into any details. This is my second day and I feel WONDERFUL! Even my chronic fatigue hasn't been as much of an issue along with my migraine headaches. Someone sent me this email which really made me see red! I have done herbal detoxes, along with other types, all my life and was raised on organic whole food along with holistic healing so yes, I took this way more personally than I should have. Not to mention the fact that I am going raw for life.. for my health.. not just for some fast to loose weight. I was just wondering.. for those who have studied this, and or know more about all this that I.. which is only what I have read through this group.. what would you reply to this or would you just say thank you and let it go? I do not want to start a debate or anything so I hope this was ok. Email me off list if you feel the need.. I am really just lost for a reply as all I know is that the only side effect that has gotten in the way is that I have to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes through the day but then again, I am drinking way more water now. Thanks in advance for any advice. The email that was sent to me below: I don't know you, obviously, but I saw your blog about bananas & detoxing on the Raw Foodies team. Rather than leave a msg on your blog, I decided to send you a private msg here instead. Truly I don't mean to be intrusive, but I just wanted to say that bananas aren't really a great fruit to detox with. Bananas can actually be quite constipating at times, which defeats the purpose of detoxing. Water-based fruits are what works really well. Anything that " goes through you " easily, which will allow your digestive system to not work so hard, and will also help to flush out the toxins. Bananas just aren't going to flush out your system of anything. What they WILL do is help keep you full if that's all you're eating. But headaches--yes, you'll get those, etc, because your body won't be getting rid of anything on its own. I recently did an 18 day raw juice fast with no problems. (I've done a zillion fasts--water, psyllium/bentonite, and many other juice fasts too. All varying lengths & times.) It's just not recommended to have non-watery fruits for detoxing. Alissa Cohen has a great raw site that's very good for more detox info. There's a GIGANTIC fasting forum there, over 18 pgs at last count. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/index.php Anyhow, good luck! Guest guest
I have found some people say they are quite binding and others have no problem. I have been regular since starting the banana plan 3 days ago but my son who is 9 months has to watch how much bananas he has because they will constipate him I am not sure if they are high in iron or what the issue is. But I think everyone is different. I havent had any withdrawl symptoms like everyone else has unless I have something I shouldn't and then I pay the price. It's a mystery how the human body works that we are trying to figure out! LOL sarah > " laura b. Guest guest
Hi Sarah, In my extensive experience with babies of 9 months (3 of my own, numerous relatives, and daycare), ALL foods are constipating except mama's milk. Not to say your son can't have a banana to mouth and enjoy, but mashing up and spoonfeeding bananas is introducing food into a gut that is set up to digest milk. Hope that helps clarify the banana question a bit...
