Guest guest
Marjorie, I agree that the only healthful primary food for babies at this age is mother's milk. At the same time, babies can begin to eat a bit of fruits. The problems often arise when parents wean too early and introduce foods too early, before the baby's metabolism is sufficiently developed to digest those foods. For example, if one were to introduce bananas at 4 or 5 months, a baby might actually develop a lifelong intolerance to bananas ... a MOST unfortunate event!! Why? Because at that age, the baby's body is expecting ONLY mother's milk and might interpret the banana (or anything else) as foreign matter. This is why babies' bodies work SO hard to fight off formula .... at a biological level, every part of their being knows it's not food for them. And this is why babies push away so many of the foods we decide they " need " . They NEED their own mother's milk ... pretty much to the exclusion of most other foods, and pretty much up to age 3 or even 4. And yes, this means that we are biologically designed to have small families. And there are MANY other implications. Please note that the ages I've chosen in this example are arbitrary. The optimal food for babies and young children is their OWN mother's milk ... just as with ALL the mammals. Make sense? Not to say your son can't have a banana to mouth and enjoy, but mashing up and spoonfeeding bananas is introducing food into a gut that is set up to digest milk. Hope that helps clarify the banana question a bit... Guest guest
In a perfect world this would work great. But we cant be following our kids to school to breastfeed them. Plus where I live this would be considered child abuse and my kids would be taken away. Along with that most people have jobs outside of the home so they can support their families and keep roofs over their heads. I am finding alot of your comments to be judgmental on how we raise our kids without leaving a chance to discuss. You talk as though we are bad parents for not doing it the way you see it. When there is not alotof information out there to support that this way is infact safe for a child. I just feel your comments are picking at our abilities as parents and the negitive. Do you have children, have you done everything perfectly with them? > " Elchanan " <Elchanan >rawfood ><rawfood > >[Raw Food] Baby Food (WAS: Would love to hear your opinion on >this.... about banana diet) >Fri, 18 May 2007 09:47:45 -0700 > >Marjorie, > >I agree that the only healthful primary food for babies at this age is >mother's milk. Guest guest
Hi everyone I must admit I did used to feel that toddlers running over to their mothers and yanking a breast out of their jumpers was a bit...yuk. However, I think there's a lot in what Elchanan (and women who breastfeed for a long time) are saying. I think there is a possibility that 99% of society is in fact quite wrong about this... However, what happened with my children was that I had intended to breast-feed them for at least the first 12-15 months. However, at 9 and 10 months respectively, they started to bite me. Quite gently, but I felt that was a 'hint'...! Love Debbie Took, Reading, UK rawfood , " sarah shaw " <hppymummy wrote: > > In a perfect world this would work great. Guest guest
Before I started looking into RFing and the like, I thought ALL breastfeeding was gross! I was intent on giving my kids formal only (mind you, I don't have any kids yet). Now, I'm rethinking that whole idea! I still don't like the idea of a little baby latched onto my nipple, but I wouldn't mind pumping for a long while! Guest guest
I am new to group, but I have to tell you...My daughter didn't latch on ever and I didn't have the proper support at the time ot anyone to help me learn how to breastfeed. I pumped milk for my daughter for 6 weeks and then had to stop. By the time you pump, clean the bottles and the everything else, feed and change the baby it is time to pump again. I was either feeding the baby or pumping milk for the baby and nothing else. Don't rule out breastfeeding just yet. Wait until that sweet little baby is placed in your arms for the first time and then see how you feel. I will always be sad that I couldn't breastfeed my daughter. Guest guest
I to felt this way to but I wanted the best for my kids so I tried the whole nursing thing with my son and was totally uncomfortable so I pumped for 7 months than when my second came along I tried again and could not get comfortable so again I pumped for 9months and when the next one comes I will pump again but this time will be for longer. It can be done it is more time consuming but I found it to be convienient for outings and trips to nana's. It is good you are getting yourself ready you will be a pro by the time you have a child. > " rabbit_is_wise_04 " <jennifersmith >rawfood >rawfood >[Raw Food] Re: Baby Food (WAS: Would love to hear your opinion on >this.... about banana diet) >Mon, 21 May 2007 15:46:39 -0000 > >Before I started looking into RFing and the like, I thought ALL >breastfeeding was gross! Guest guest
Hi Caroline, Breastfeeding is such a natural part of child bearing. Not only in the nourishment of the child and passing on anti-bodies, but the physical advantages of getting the uterus back in shape for the mother. The bonding and quiet time you have with the child is wonderful for both. My granddaughter came to live with me when she was pregnant and wanted to breastfeed. She had large breasts and inverted nipples which made breastfeeding a little difficult, but not impossible. I kept encouraging her to stay with it and not give up. She nursed her baby for over a year and got her off to a good start. Sharon In our hearts we plan our day, but it is God who determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9 Caroline writes: My daughter didn't latch on ever and I didn't have the proper support at the time ot anyone to help me learn how to breastfeed. I pumped milk for my daughter for 6 weeks and then had to stop. By the time you pump, clean the bottles and the everything else, feed and change the baby it is time to pump again.
