I have found it very comforting to talk to my doctor, she is woman

at Kaiser and the first thing I tend to check about doctors is if

they " walk the talk " and show it!

My doctor is in very good shape, takes care of herself and that's

what I like to see for starters...

I see " doctors " and people who give advice, who could not jump over

their own backyard fence to save their own lives in a fire!

To me that is not a good thing...

As you can see from the following site, this man is not invisable,

and clearly pratices what he preaches! I'm speaking about Doug

Graham with the 80/10/10 diet...

http://www.foodnsport.com

Talking about all the benefits is one thing... showing me is

another, hence the age of phrase of " walk the talk! "

I have been disgusted to no end to see some " doctors " in very sad

shape with their " smocks " on and I personally think it's terrible to

be in a posistion of advising people about their health and having a

cigarette hanging off your lip outside the hospital with a doctors

smock on and obviously in no position to jump over " any " fence to

save not only another life but your own.

That's my rant, sorry about this but when I over suggestions to

people about what " trainer " to use at a gym I simply tell them to

start by finding the one that is in the best shape then start from

there.

This list is no different when finding " your guru! "

I look at it like cooking. I used to be an avid cook. I love to cook. So for me

it's like searching for the perfect recipie. I take a little from here and a

little from here and a lot from over there. I taste and if it is good I'm happy,

If it is not I make it again another daywith a different combination. Tasting as

I go. Life is a " work in progress " a journey. There is no perfection in any of

us or anything.

>

> These are all analogies just to " try " to make my point. I don't get upset, or

offended, or put off because I read a recipie I don't agree with or I didn't

like the ingredients. I just throw it all to the fact that that won't work in MY

dish. LOL

excellent point.

it helps to see the teacher actually practicing what they preach.

still, just cuz someone doesnt look the part doesnt mean they dont

have the knowledge. A doctor out of shape could just lack time, works

too many hours, is under too much stress, etc..its a hard job.

but it bothers me too when i go for a check up and the nurses are all

fat and telling me my cholesterol is too high, etc....i had an

internist ask me if i would design a workout plan for him once....he

noticed i was in rather good shape...good upper body development...he

was a runner and lacked upper body muscle.

he mentioned his schedule was crazy and running was about all he could

do....gave me some perspective...

but i absolutely would NOT go to a pers trainer that didnt appear to

be in shape. Thats their job. They are advertisements for their

knowledge.

doctors diagnose and treat disease. They dont prevent it. So they dont

need to look the part for me to trust them. But i wish they did.

Yes, I concede that... I was on a bit of a rant there. :)

Yes, my doctor too has a crazy schedule commuting from the Half Moon

Bay area to San Francisco's Kaiser (Geary Street building) and has

little time. That subject came up when I had gone head over heals

for Bikram Yoga a few years back and dropped alot of weight was was

eating about 80% raw, my cholesterol dropped from about 200 to 145

and I had lost about 35 lbs. It was the 90-minute yoga classes and

the 35-minutes to get there and back (over 2-1/2 hours of devotion)

daily that brought up the subject of how little time a doctor really

has...

> but i absolutely would NOT go to a pers trainer that didnt appear to

Yes, I agree. That was probably a better example to use than a

common doctor.

Yes, funny you say that for when I did make that transformation back

then, got my blood work back, not only did she come flying into my

room but two other doctors who I've more or less known and said..

" How did you manage to do this...? "

So I explained and they were very attentive and agreeing about the

yoga part then I mentioned " NOT " eating any " cooked " food and it was

then that the negative shaking of the other doctors heads ever so

subtle as it was, began to happen.

My doctor, gawd bless her, was the only one in agreement and

understaning about the concept of raw foods.

how funny is that!?

i dropped my numbers 20 pts once from one year to the next and my dr

was soo shocked he was giddy! Id never seen a reaction like that

before. I can only guess that he was so used to noncompliance that my

actually dropping it was a complete oddity.

he was smiling so big youd think he got commission for it. That was a

couple of years ago....i shudder to think what he'd do if he tested me

now.... Sumersaults?

they honestly dont expect people to change what they eat and they show

it by the precious little nutritional training they receive. AMA does

nnoootttt want to admit that food is the problem. I guess cuz they

dont want to be out of a job...

I apologize this is long. :-/

Doctors, imho, " practice " . They go to school to learn what they know. They don't

learn much in the way of nutrition. Look at how you are fed in hospitals as an

in-patient. lol It is a joke! Look at the food at the hospital cafeteria's.

" fried food " line, grill line, desert line, ok, a salad bar, yes, but not as a

main event. A doctor does not feel the patient is satisfied with the visit

unless he/she walks out with at least one rx. The patient doesn't feel the visit

was a good one if the doctor didn't offer an rx. (Again I'm speaking in

generalities). I had a friend in the hospital, she had a stroke, I went to visit

her and saw on her tray a pork chop, mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon

bits. I asked her if the doctor had put her on a special diet, she said no,

just a low sodium diet. lol

I agree it is unfair to trust or not trust based on how a doctor looks, however,

I am guilty of wanting my doctor to " look the part " lol I mean, there are lots

of doctors, how do I know mine didn't cheat in his class to get through...lol

Or didn't have a parent or friend with " connections " get him through. Call me a

skeptic...lol

Just the other day Avandia was under question as to it's safety. How can they

approve a drug one day only to turn around in time and pull it off after someone

dies from it. It happens with lots of drugs.

That is one thing that has really drawn me to the raw lifestyle. I don't want to

live the rest of my life with drugs. I want to be healed with raw foods. I

believe in my heart it is possible, I also believe doctors don't want you to

heal yourself with foods as the drug companies would cut their support of the

medical community. They are partners. The older doctors know this the younger

ones may not (yet).

I believe in the raw community there are many people with many insights and many

opinions. I also agree that I have been " drawn in " by Elchanan and have come to

respect his opinion because it speaks to me. I see that he backs his words with

evidence of facts. I like that.

I am finding other sources that I am enjoying and I like what I read. I am sure

at some point in my journey I will be ready to settle on one teacher, I am not

there yet. I'm having too much fun taking it all in.

Thanks for letting me share,

Jeannie

That was probably a better example to use than a

common doctor.

> doctors diagnose and treat disease. They dont prevent it. So they dont

> need to look the part for me to trust them. But i wish they did.

>

Anna,

I was thinking along the sames lines with you as far as yes it would be nice

if people practice what they teach however, it doesn't always happen for many

reasons as you stated. I think that can be applied to any filed though even a

trainer. If they can show me people they have helped get into shape I would use

them if if they were out of shape. I am guilty of giving some good advice to my

friends at times but I don't always follow it:( Good for4 them bad for me but

the advice is still good just the same.
