My favorite raw vegan ice cream is coconut vanilla, made from Jackie Graff's

recipe.

gideongraff can tell you where to get the book...

TO Belinda (who is wondering if homemade ice cream is ok

for a raw diet, because it is raw;o))

well, Belinda, if you are making your homemade ice cream

from raw fruit, it will be good for you. check the list recipe

files for interesting " ice creams " , or just freeze a few

bananas and run them through a Champion juicer with the blank

plate-- instant soft serve!

Welll, I know this would be good, but no, that isn't the kind of

homemade ice cream I was talking about. Sigh, I love dairy. Butter,

cream, milk. I am totally off of it for now though. I am

experimenting to see if it will make a difference with my allergies.

Unfortunately I am allergic to most everything I love. Dogs, cats,

horses, flowers, hay, grass, the barn and honeysuckles which will be

blooming soon. For years these things just caused sneezing, itching

and runny nose and eyes. But in the last several years it has

excalated to involve my breathing. Or lack of.

If I want to hold and hug on our cat, I have to immediately go inside

and change my clothes and wash my hands or I will soon feel like I am

trying to breath through a pillow. Same thing when I go horseback

riding. My favorite thing in the world to do.:o(

I am also off wheat too for now. Boy is that a hard one.

Bananas are good for making things creamy in consistancy. I always

put them in my green smoothies. Nice ripe mangos do the same thing.

However, here in TN, nice mangos are very hard to come by. I am

sometimes jealous of those of you that live in tropical climates with

access to all those sweet, fesh, yummy tropical fruits.

Someone once brought me a pineapple back from Hawaii. Boy oh boy was

that good. Nothing like our shipped in pineapples that we have here.

I wonder if fresh bananas taste much different than our green later

to turn yellow bananas that we get here.

Oh I love mangos!! I don't know the difference in the tastes between the all

yellow, the multi colored, and the green. I hate that they are so expensive.

When I see they are 2/1 I am so happy. lol

I love exotic fruits. Has anyone tried a mamey?? I love the buttery taste of

them. I haven't found one in years.

Can people share other exotic fruits they have tried from other countries? I

think that would be interesting.

Sincerely,

Jeannie

Oh Anna!!

It is a fruit I came across when I was in Acapulco years ago. It is a round

fruit and has a very dark, soft middle, it is soft like butter and has an

awesome creamy texture. I have not seen any here. Try to google it and see if

you can find a pic.

I loved it. I wish I could find one again.

Frozen bananas through a Champion (or Cuisinart) are certainly a

great desert and probably much easier to digest, but if you're

looking for a richer, dairy-like richness and flavor, then a base of

fresh cashew, almond, or coconut milk may satisfy you. When I became

vegan I wasn't happy with the vegan ice creams on the market, so I

began making my own. Have a look at my book, Vice Cream. About half

the recipes are 100% raw. It's in bookstores, as well as my site

(vicecream.com).

Belinda:

If it's creamy you are after, try a recipe with cashews in it.

There are a couple of dreamy creamy recipes in the list recipe files,

and most of the " gourmet " recipe books have some creamy ice cream.

I had an amazing creamy ice cream at one of our local restaurants

here. I couldn't believe it was really all raw, although I know that

restaurant is all raw. I asked and they told me that the ice cream was

made with cashews.
