Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I have been 100% Raw since I completed the Master Cleanse in February. I lost 26 pounds during the cleanse. The problem is, since I have been eating raw my weight loss has stopped. I have been 100 % raw for three whole months and I have gained 4 pounds. I really can't afford to gain weight. My body fat percent is 44 and I have a ton of weight yet to lose. What could I be doing wrong. Do I need to start restricting on a raw food diet. I am reaaly getting concerned. Has anyone experienced this? Tuliza

Guest guest
Hi Tuliza, You sound frustrated, I understand that! And you ask: What could I be doing wrong. Would you be willing to share more about what you are doing, so that others might have greater clarity about that? Guest guest
Hi Anna, I do eat nuts and Avocado. I will eat 1 avocado cut into pieces in my green leafy spinach salads. I eat fresh fruit, carrots, I drink Kombucha and water. I haven't eaten dried fruit for a month. I do snack on raw nuts, a few hands full, but not everyday. I use a spray of Bragg Liquid Aminos on my Salads. I create variations of nori rolls using ground carrot, ginger and sprouts. Maybe I am not meant to eat nuts and Avocado. I have seen recipes in many of my raw food books that include nuts or Avocados. I thought it was okay to have. I also juice with vegetables and fruit. I have never once cheated. Should I give up the nuts and avocados completely? Guest guest
Hi Elchanan, I was just tell ing Anna that I do eat nuts and Avocados. I don't usually eat until noon. I may have a large salad in the afternoon and again in the evening. I like to some times eat nori rolls in the afternoon instead of salad for a change. I have also made raw pizza with portabello mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and avocado. Pretty much this is how I eat. I have had red wine in the evening with dinner, 1 glass. Guest guest
Yes, thank you Tulize, I see both messages. Have you ever used Nutridiary (or FitDay) to analyze what you are eating for a few days (as in 3 or 4 days)? If you are willing, that would be helpful. You can exclude minor ingredients that include few calories. For example, if you ate some cilantro or sprinkled a bit of salt or pepper on something, it's of no consequence for purposes of this analysis. But definitely include all fruits, nuts, avocado, seeds, vegetables, oils, etc., anything that provides noteworthy calories. To do this, you'll need to measure what you are eating for a few days, an inexpensive food scale will be useful. The cheapest is fine for this purpose. Once you've done this bit of detective work for yourself and we have a brief food diary, then please share, and we'll have much more to say. Okay? Guest guest
Yes, Tuliza, you can gain weight on raw. I've seen it happen with people who go in for lots of raw bars, raw cookies, raw crackers, etc. Concentrated foods could be an issue if you are downing them at a fast rate. If you are eating a lot of high glycemic fruit, that could cause a problem -- I know you may find this hard to believe, but raw food has calories in it!!!!! I realized this early on, and started to look at what I was eating, and how it impacted what I wanted to do weight wise. I went back to look at Atkins and rethink how that affected me. I have never been your biggest fan of salads, so I started looking at ways that I could prepare intensely low glycemic foods (i.e., salad stuff) that would make me happy, fill me up, and not leave me wanting to eat again in a short while [i hate being like a cow and grazing all day long, although I realize that a number of people think that is a way to go -- I just have better things to do than sitting around and thinking about what I am going to eat next] I know this flies in the face of what a lot of people on this list believe, but... I'm not them. I find that eating protein helps me out. No, I am not munching on nuts all day long (remember, I don't like grazing). I do make a couple of things that have nuts in them (my spaghetti sauce has a serious dose of almonds... when I am tired of it, I pop it in the dehydrator and make little patties of the leftovers; my crackers and " cheeze " , which sometimes are lunch -- I really cannot eat more than 5 or 6 of them as they are a concentrated raw food, so lunch is quick! I also do make pates from time to time.) I am not afraid of nuts and avocados, because I find that they will often stop me from eating more than I ought to (fats have a nice way of satisfying hunger and certain cravings) I love my ice cream, but, when I make it, it is my meal, as it is going to have a lot of fruit in it. I do not make cookies or cakes or pies any more... they are really good, but they are very concentrated and high in calories, so a piece should be my meal, and my head doesn't feel like it is. I do not make things with " breads " for the same reason... I will want to eat the whole thing and there are lots of calories there. This approach works for me and some of my clients. (I do think that different people respond to different things, and God has given us freedom of choice, to do what seems to work best for us. While many people have given over their lives to 811, that simply does not work for me, while a simpler approach to natural hygiene does.) I was going to write this to you privately, but then I perversely decided to post it directly to the list. There may be other people on this list for whom 811 does not fit the bill. I hope this helps you some. Margaret
Guest guest
Tuliza, I hear a lot of concern about not losing weight FAST enough on Raw Vegan food. I'd look at the source of that concern. Is it truly yours? Or is it an issue that the media has convinced you to take on as your own? What you don't speak about is how do you feel? How is your energy? Do you exercise daily - get your heart pumping and lymph circulating? What do you feel like when you awaken? Is your mouth and saliva clean in the morning or thick and sour? You want to lose weight. How long did it take you to put on the weight? I'm going to assume years. So... why do you expect your body to remove the weight is a fraction of the time? Weight is a symptom of the organism's unhealthy state. Weight is not the problem. The overall health of the organism is the issue. Are you feeling healthier than in January? Also, holding excess weight frequently comes with other health issues. Digestion. Elimination. Depression. Candida or other fungus. Inertia (no-exercise). Emotional eating (bingeing). Thyroid. etc. Do you have other identified health issues? Are you on any medications? My experience is that the body will drop the weight when it is ready to drop the weight. It's easy to loose weight while feeding the body liquids only - Master Cleanse, Juice Feasting, Water Fasting, etc. The metabolism shifts after a few days and begins to burn the fat - it has no choice. However, when you resume eating, your metabolism will tend back toward what it's normal state is for your body. You may have other things that your body needs to heal before it can process the fat. I've seen people loose 30 pounds in a month after losing no weight for months. I can't explain exactly why that happens. My theory is what I said above. The body had more pressing things to take care of that the excess weight. If you stay on this diet for a long time, I can promise you that it will challenge your beliefs and assumptions about how things work. Your faith is being tested -- faith in the perfection of life. Did the universe (God / Higher Power / ...) make a mistake when it designed the human biology? Can humans improve the biology by tinkering? If you answer no, then you must always trust that the way your specific body is healing is exactly the way it's supposed to be healing. That the bodies intelligence is greater than the brain's ability thinking about it. ..wyn The Raw Retreat http://www.TheRawRetreat.com o) 888.EAT.RAW4LIFE f) 877.236.6999 > Hello Everyone, > I have been 100% Raw since I completed the Master Cleanse in > February.
