Guest guest
Hello, For the last few months we have had a mono-meal of melons for breakfast, most mornings. Usually it has been yellow honeydew melons. These have come from several suppliers. A few days ago, we got some from a different supplier. They seemed similar to the sort we usually have, still yellow honeydew, but smallish (around 2 pounds) and with a slightly different taste. After I had been eating them for perhaps ten minutes, my gums started to become painful. As I continued eating, the pain became worse, so I stopped. My gums were red and inflamed. My wife, who ate the same amount of the same melons (we had half each of each), had no such reaction. It was similar to the reaction that I (and many people) sometimes have to pineapple, except that pineapples mostly affect my tongue. The melons affected primarily my gums, and only slightly my tongue and lips. The inflammation subsided gradually during the day. The next day I ate some more of the same sort of melons, with the same result. I have not had any more of them since then, but today I ate some of the more familiar variety, and had no reaction. Has anyone ever had a similar experience, and can anyone offer an explanation? Regards, Roger. Answers - Got a question? Someone out there knows the answer. Tryit now. Guest guest
I totally lose my voice after eating watermelon. It doesn't hurt and I can't see any other symptoms, just that my throat feels a tad itchy and my voice doesn't work. I love watermelon too, but I only eat it if I can get away with whispering for a while afterwards. Wish I had some explanation, but I have no clue?? Good luck! Guest guest
Roger, Definitely an allergic reaction. I am allergic to most melons and get the raw throat along with the burning mouth. Most people who have melon allergies usually have " hayfever " allergies as well. I was hoping that going to raw would make this allergy disappear as it has others (hayfever included); unfortunately that is not the case - and I do love melons. Ini Be a PS3 game guru.
