Guest guest
Do people who have been raw and gone thru the transitional stages of prepared & packaged 'raw', home-made raw, smoothies & blended raw, mono raw and on to simple raw; do they generally come to place where they re-think the quantity, volume or caloric intake of the fuel they give thier body? What 'generally' is a healthy guide for where the average simple raw person settles with thier choices in reguard to earlier question? I've read caloric numbers in the ranges of 800 - 1500 calories for average and 2000 for athletes. Those caloric numbers seem (in a mental sense) low, in experience I'm finding those numbers to be norm. That norm to me is both curious and a bit disturbing as my aim is to both live HEALTHY and Simply. Sincerely, Respectfully, and hoping for a reply... Guest guest
Lesa, I can only speak for myself. I don't look at calories. I haven't since I began my raw lifestyle journey. I eat and eat and eat....as long as I am eating 100% raw I don't. I am having fun experimenting with a variety of vegetables. I am trying to " think outside the box " . I find I am loosing weight and feeling great. Despite my " caving " on a few ounces of grilled chicken the other day. I am doing great and feeling better every day. I find that I eat more often but i'm eating green veggies and it is fueling my body. I feel that in time perhaps my body will require less and will let me know when to stop. lol (I hope so anyway). In the begining I hate nuts and seeds like crazy all day long. I find that I have self limited them. I didn't say to myself, " I'm going to eat fewer nuts today " . I just did. Interesting how my body didn't ask for them as much. I think for me at least, that is one of the many " beauties " of the raw lifestyle. It is indeed, my lifestyle choice and it is very freeing to me, not to have to think about calories anymore. Guest guest
Hi Lesa, I'm not sure that I can give you a direct answer to your question. I haven't counted calories since beginning my raw lifestyle. I feel that if I am eating live, nutrient-rich foods, then I'll eat as much as my body asks for. Some days I may eat and eat and eat. Other days I feel like I don't eat enough, yet my body doesn't want more. Listen to your body, forget the numbers. Relax. Your body knows what is best for you. I don't feel that we need to stress over how many calories unless our bodies alert us that something isn't quite right. Thats just my opinion. ~Sarah > Do people who have been raw and gone thru the > transitional stages of > prepared & packaged 'raw', home-made raw, smoothies > & blended raw, > mono raw and on to simple raw; do they generally > come to place where > they re-think the quantity, volume or caloric intake > of the fuel they > give thier body? > > What 'generally' is a healthy guide for where the > average simple raw > person settles with thier choices in reguard to > earlier question? > > > I've read caloric numbers in the ranges of 800 - > 1500 calories for > average and 2000 for athletes. Guest guest
Thank you so much for replying. Earlier in my Raw path, I had the issue of being hungry alllllll the time and struggled with either letting go of weight way too easily or getting stuck when I ate sunflower seeds (too many, too often I know understand). The solution that helped me to get a clearer picture of what was really going on was when I began using Nutridiary.com and realized I was only eating 600 calories per day all those way hungry days and even w/the sunflower seeds days I hardly went over 1000 calories --- when I saw this, I decided w/input from our beloved Elchanan to increase the amount of sweet fruits (mostly bananas at this time) in order to increase my intake to a healthier 1200 per day. What happened is that not only did I finally feel full, I also slept better and to my surprise I continued to let go of weight. I've been traveling a lot this month and struggled w/the availablity of foods appropriate for me, off and on I chose higher fat (avocados mostly) in order to just feel ok and sleep - I did eventually find some fresh, organic dates and stopped giving in to avocados - I felt much better. Since then, I've been noticing that I'm just getting full on very little calories again - I don't want to create a prob for myself. I'm so pleased with letting go of 130#s, any higher fat fruits or seeds/nuts don't feel or taste good enough to eat on a regular basis, I'm over bananas right now - there are a couple on the counter. I am eating more melon, tomatoes, cukes and 'low' calorie foods - I made sure I bought a few dates for the next couple days - just to be safe. I hope my intention is coming through Simply, Lesa rawfood , Sarah Formhals <mrsfrmhls wrote: > > Hi Lesa, > > I'm not sure that I can give you a direct answer to > your question. Guest guest
I let go of 130#s since June 29th 2006 (yes, last year). I went through a time similar to this a few months back when I learned how to eat bananas and increase my caloric intake. Bananas haven't been that good and I'm not feeling them right now...and I've been traveling w/NON-raw ppl and I'm nervous about finding a comfortable place to settle with this raw lifestyle that I choose. It's a challenge at times to purchase all organics due to my budget, it's a challenge to choose what I want to eat when all that calls to me is tomatoes, tomatoes and more tomatoes w/an occasional cantelope or grapefruit tossed in... I've gone through all the stages that I mentioned in the first " Q for E " post a couple days ago and have been eating very simply for a few months. Now while traveling I tried a couple transition foods that I used to love and almost gagged - my tastes have changed sooooooo much. I've basically been eating mono meals for months and some of my favorite meals were had in local parks sitting in the grass w/5 mangos! On another , the owner chastisted me for eating too much and for using calories as a guide... since she was greatly offended, I apologized and logged off the site. Since I'm once more experiencing this fullness at a lower caloric intake on most days, with occasional days of hunger (when I'm fillling in w/dates)... I'm wondering if the information this other group owner gave me before I left about the majority of healthy long term raw fooders eat somewhere between 800-1000 calories a day and the athletes around 2000? This seems odd, tho this is also the second time I've experienced this being okay at 6-800 calories a day - yet in some minds (I've only had one person say this directly to me) this is borderline/might be anorexic numbers? I am trying to be healthy! not trying to go to some other unnecessary, unhealthy place. I really wanted a bit of assurance that I'm doing okay - and that those days that I'm really hungry and eat lots of dates and go over 2000 it may be okay w/the 6-800 calorie days most of the time...I don't know and my patterns haven't been very consistant yet either - I'm probly just nervous/anxious or scared - I'm not willing to be fat, or unhealthy for anyone any more! Guest guest
A bit more info: For instance, today I'm done eating for the day now. I just did my Nutridiary log and I've eaten 1096 calories. Now I walked about 6 miles today instead of my normal 45 mins. And I also did NOT mono meal it today - okay this stuff has been on my mind a LOT lately. I ate: 3 handfuls of Cherries (don't recall how many pounds, counted a bowl full to estimate the number for Nutridiary) 2 apricots 2 pickling Cucumbers 8 Dates Coleslaw: Tomatoes, Red Cabbage, Orange 'Sandwich': Savoy Cabbage, alfalfa sprouts, slice tomato & sunflower seeds I already bought 2 cantelopes for tomorrow, zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes. I made extra of the coleslaw already so I won't need to run to the store again. I'll probly need to buy more dates though. Thanks for all the input, I do appreciate the support. Guest guest
E, I do not know. I'm not sure how to figure this w/o having it done by someone else and I haven't checked in with the personal trainer in my buildings gym to see if he can do it. I think he used to have those pinch your skin caliper things... What suggestion do you have for estimating this measurement? My waist is 29 " , bust 33/34 " depending on clothes, hips 39 " and my hips/thighs/tummy is where I still hold the more wrinkly results of my weight changes. (if this helps?) Guest guest
Hi Lesa, Yes, I believe you may have answered your own inquiry ... talk to the trainer. If he/she cannot do it, perhaps he/she can direct you to a resource. And do I remember correctly, about 5'7 " and presently 140-something pounds? I'm not sure how to figure this w/o having it done by someone else and I haven't checked in with the personal trainer in my buildings gym to see if he can do it. I think he used to have those pinch your skin caliper things... What suggestion do you have for estimating this measurement? My waist is 29 " , bust 33/34 " depending on clothes, hips 39 " and my hips/thighs/tummy is where I still hold the more wrinkly results of my weight changes. (if this helps?)
