Guest guest
This is precisely why the Pritikin Diet failed, in the long run. Got rid of heart disease beautifully, but replaced it with arthritis and, to an extent, diabetes. Why? Pritikin realized that there were only three viable sources for human fuel (calories): 1. Fats. 2. Simple sugars. 3. Starches. He knew fats were wrong, and he feared simple sugars, so he chose starches. But grains, the primary source of starches in most cultures, acidify the body and cause it to degenerate over time. Ergo, choose simple sugars ... choose fruits!!! There is an EXCELLENT book on the why the Pritikin diet failed, written by Ross Horne and available as a free PDF download from www.soilandhealth.org. Guest guest
I have some arthritis issues too. Not medicaly confirmed, but I know that is what it is. Does arthritis get better or at least stop the progression when grains are removed or at least consummed in small amounts? Potatoes are a starch. Are they as bad for you as the grains? Have the same harmful effects? (there goes my potatoes and corn, I fear )) Belinda rawfood , " Elchanan " <Elchanan wrote: > > This is precisely why the Pritikin Diet failed, in the long run. Guest guest
belinda my arthritis virtually DISAPPEARS when i eat raw. it flames when i eat wheat and some other grains..but particularly wheat. my corn flakes (comfort food for emotional cisis moments..remember im divorcing an alchy) doesnt bother me that way, just gives me sugar overdose headaches...oats are a problem too but not as bad...im allergic to gluten. i got my blood tested for allergies years ago...i have issues with wheat, yeast, milk....how textbook is that? There was something else but i dont remember what it was..mayb coconut...something i rarely eat so i dont recall... so what is that? BREAD...my passion! Which i finally no longer crave....and BREAKFAST CEREALS....my aaaallll time comfort food... they say you crave most what youre allergic to most..because of the rush...just like alcoholics....so i was not the least bit surprised at the results... i suppose you could say i fight breads and cereals with milk like drinkers fight booze...(those that want to ofcourse)...thats my biggest pull. anna On 6/8/07, Belinda <MistyBlueTN wrote: > I have some arthritis issues too. Guest guest
Even the stiffness of your joints? Oats too? I thought oats were really good for you. I eat some about every moring with some flaxseed meal and a bowl of fruit. I am off of wheat for now as well as dairy. Though I just had some mashed potatoes for lunch (my only cooked meal). I forgot they are made with dairy. Shoot. I remembered it, because after I ate I felt my nose kind of stuffing up. So I was trying to think of what all I just ate. Chicken, turnip greens and mashed potatoes. It had to be the potatoes. Guest guest
theres toxins in potatoes. and oats are high in gluten..that gluey stuff they emit when cooked..it traps cholesterol and fats so good for that but the glue clogs up the villi in the intestine....the stuff gets thru and i react... and yes..i mean joint stiffness disappears when raw...i can have a bowl of raisin bran and in 24hrs i can barely get out of bet the next morning...now..i spring right up....i almost never " get stuck " in positions im in for long periods of time...its like being 20 again that way. arthritis is completely food related in my experience. Guest guest
oooooo rriiicceeee... im cuban......you just hit on a MAJOR comfort food for aaaalll cubans! when raw i dont eat it. Serves no purpose but to bloat me and constipate. Theres no nutrition in white rice. I dont like brown...didnt grow up eating it! but rice is *supposed to be* a universal nonallergen. Asians eat it..it works for them...they dont overeat though...i would! I looove it... i dont recommend it on a raw diet...its empty starch that wastes nutrition calories better used elsewhere. im sure elchanan has the straight poop on rice..id love to hear it..as a former rice addict.. peace anna On 6/8/07, Belinda <MistyBlueTN wrote: > Great news Anna. > I am looking forward to the experiance. > As for oats, I can do without. Guest guest
mooove over you cubana............lol I love your rice with plantains and black beans.......yummmm-o. I can eat myself sick on those things. As a middle easterner.........I grew up with rice and yogurt. lol I think that many cultures grew up with rice as a staple. Perhaps because it has always been relatively cheap and a little goes a long way. We ate rice with every single meal growing up. I HAVE to stay away from rice because for me, there is no " I'll just have a little " . Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one. People are allergic to anything and everything these days, even fruit. (I suspect a lot of it is to do with other foods they eat, and/or chemicals in their environment, which tax their system and cause it to take it out on the good stuff) I stopped eating rice a while back when I had a tummy bug, and haven't really missed it. Just trying to wean my boy off it too - he gets constipated on white rice, and goes about with a basketball belly for a few days afterwards. Guest guest
- Anna Bishop >but how bout those allergies?....i knew it....dumb to say universal non allergen...i didnt believe it either...shame tho' gooosh... Yep! My brother's also allergic to bananas, poor bloke. >like jeannie mentioned,,,rice, black beans, fried bananas... yyuuuummmooooo, we cubans are hard core for rice.... Haven't tried that, but I ate a LOT of rice when I was in Japan - I'm not sure what people mean by " they limit it " , as it seemed to be the base of every meal, sometimes the whole meal (I stayed with a middle-to-upper class family, so I don't think it was a $ issue). We'd have a bowl of rice, and crack an egg into it (YUM!), or have tempura or similar on the side. They have rice in sushi, rice balls, a soup with a ball of rice paste in it that was like glue (had a hard time eating that one, but it was for new year's, so had to), and even their wine is fermented rice. They did comment on how tall I was (5'6 " , and towered over nearly everyone. I met 2 people taller than me the whole time I was there, both males, 16-20yo), and said it must have been because of the milk. >got a cuban restaurant down the street...you wanna talk comfort food? way too much temptation in this town.. >but were gettin' a handle on this...yes we aaaarrreee.... Good on you ) I'm having a hard time with mum-cooked meals (I live in the same town as my parents, so we visit a lot), more than anything. No problem with cooking at home, I've never been good at it, hehe. Caron
Guest guest
This is possible but rare. More than likely, it's mistaking the meaning of the symptoms. Guest guest
I had mentioned cross-contamination. Nevertheless, even so that does not mean the oats themselves contain gluten. That would be like sprinkling a little artificial sweetener onto lettuce and claiming it has Sucralose in it or something. So, it is possible to buy oats that have never been processed in factories containing wheat, etc., *if* that's what you wanted to do. But, like you say, it's a moot point for you. -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog/vegan-done-light.html rawfood , " Anna Bishop " <mowthpeece wrote: > > oh thats fine..i ckd the internet again in case there was new info..i > am not into nutrition so much as religion these days..so i may not > have current reaearch data.. > > i found plenty that says its got gluten..and 2 sites saying it may be > cuz of contamination...only " pure " oats..whatever that is to us in the > US....doesnt... > > so om sticking with it does... > > but its moot anyway cuz im shootin for raw..so wwhhaatteevveerr.. > > peace > anna > > On 6/8/07, Elchanan <Elchanan wrote: > > Erin only said it's not gluten. Guest guest
Karin, I've been cold/cool this year too. I also have a newly found 'need' to have sunlight and air on my skin. I've been wearing sweaters and even was disappointed when I went out yesterday w/o one - it was 80+ here in NY! I figured w/all the changes in my size and this being my first year as a raw foodist that this is yet another change. NOW I'm soooooo entertaining the idea of moving south (=WARMER! SUNSHINE!)- especially since the environmental toxins are affecting me so greatly. You might have noticed me mentioning things like noise 24/7 (I didn't notice so badly last year b/c I used a window a/c unit, this year I chose not to), emissions from the traffic, more smokers on the sidewalks etc, etc. Being cold/cooler does seem odd to me, as well, because I grew up in Maine - summer never got over 80F and we didn't even think about sweaters until it was 40F --- chchchchanges... And I'm 48yo, 5'7 " , 140ish#s, ?%b/f (I'm working on getting this #), 33.5 B, 29W, 39H - (and I'm proud that I let go of 130#s this past year when my goal was being healthy!) Hoping that just knowing you aren't alone gives you some support. I don't know the real answer to why this happens.
