HI Anna and all,

We can look at this in a couple of different ways, and all ways lead to the

same answer.

1. Grains are seriously lacking in the #1 food nutrient we need ... water.

Whatever we eat that is dehydratED on the outside is dehydratING on the

inside. And our level of hydration controls almost every metabolic capacity

we have ... really.

2. Grains are acid-forming. Some are more acid-forming than others. Some

contain more gluten than others. But they are ALL acid-forming inside us.

The reason that some cultures eat rice for eons is that they limit their

consumption of it. The moment we look to rice--or to any grain(s)--as a

primary source of fuel (calories), we're hosed. And that has been the

unbroken history of humanity for nearly 10,000 years, since some brilliant

(no pun intended) figured out how to " domesticate " and " cultivate " the

stuff.

3. Where did this attraction to grass seed come from, anyway? If you were

hungry and passed by a field of ANY grain known to this planet, your would

NOT salivate!!! Not now, not ever. And you literally COULD not eat the stuff

off the plant. It would destroy your teeth, then the rest of your digestive

system.

Recently there was a discussion about corn, and someone pointed out that

what we call corn is hybridized from the original, called " maize " . We (the

U.S. government) sent boatloads of maize over to Ireland during the potato

famine of 1848. One teeny tiny problem ... we didn't send an instruction

manual. Poor folks ... they actually tried to eat the stuff unground and

virtually destroyed themselves in the process.

4. Grain is the food of slavery. Since some genius first figured out how to

" domesticate " it, the mass of the population of every society in history

(until the past 3 generations in our own society) has toiled endless hours,

either in the fields growing the stuff, or constructing granaries to store

the stuff. So we " needed " management, an aristocracy, " government " , priests,

laws ... all to make sure that those who knew what the hell was happening

got to keep all that was produced by the rest of the poor bastards ... er, I

mean the remainder of the population.

Go back and reread (or read, as it were) the first chapter or two of the

book of Exodus (yep, the one in the Old Testament). When the Hebrews were

enslaved, to what work were they put? Building " store cities " (massive

granaries) for Pharaoh. You can find a thousand similar sources, that just

happens to be on the well-known end of the spectrum.

So say " nyet " to grain and preserve your brain!

Best to all,

Elchanan

[Raw Food] Say " nyet " to grain (WAS: Grains and arthritis ... why

Pritikin failed (WAS: How long could you live on ...?)

HI Anna and all,

We can look at this in a couple of different ways, and all ways lead to the

same answer.

1. Grains are seriously lacking in the #1 food nutrient we need ... water.

Whatever we eat that is dehydratED on the outside is dehydratING on the

inside. And our level of hydration controls almost every metabolic capacity

we have ... really.

But if you look at animals....you see that many animals eat grains.....

(no pun intended) figured out how to " domesticate " and " cultivate " the

stuff.

What about the South Americans, South Asians, and I'm sure many other

cultures......for whom rice and beans of some sort is a staple of life?

3. Where did this attraction to grass seed come from, anyway? If you were

hungry and passed by a field of ANY grain known to this planet, your would

NOT salivate!!! Not now, not ever. And you literally COULD not eat the stuff

off the plant. It would destroy your teeth, then the rest of your digestive

system.

happens to be on the well-known end of the spectrum.

While on the subject of the bible............the bible does not advocate eating

raw........eating meat is not shunned nor banned. Why do you think that is?

Nothing is mentioned about eating or not eating grains. Am I wrong?

One of the things I see that are forbidden are things related to the swine.

So say " nyet " to grain and preserve your brain!

Fascinating indeed.

But if you look at animals....you see that many animals eat grains.....

Which animals? Roughly 1/2 of all sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) sold in

America is fed to grain-fed cows ... because they experience painful

indigestion from eating the stuff, just as we do.

Birds have gullets, they scoop up tiny stones, and the combination of stones

and gullets grinds up seeds ... aka grain (and other seeds). Interestingly,

humans first learned to grind grain by rubbing heavy stones together.

______

Animals eat corn

What animals eat corn? None of our relatives! (the anthropoid primates) ....

not a single animal in Nature that is biologically close to us in design

eats corn, on its own. There IS no corn where they live!!

Grains are fed to cattle, chickens, horses, you name it. I agree that they were

not meant to eat grains but I think they are feed grains to fatten them up.

You are right about birds, I have had parrots for years. I feed mine fruits and

veggies and nuts and seeds as an occassional treat.

Primates don't eat grains, you are correct. They are raw 100%, unless they have

changed their diets at zoos. I don't know.
