Guest guest
what is maintenance? as Sarah mentioned, as long as you are eating healthy, you should probably find it easy to regulate body weight. I am, at this point in my life, dealing with an unwelcome increase in size. I have had to examine what I am doing, and have noticed that I have been having too much fun. Crackers, cookies, and a lot of the " gourmet " recipes, do contain a lot of calories. Transition foods can be a danger. Sweeteners, such as agave syrup, do carry calories. I am looking into my food allergies again, as well as things I haven't eaten in a while, or haven't eaten much, that I was eating when I was " maintaining " the weight I liked. I have always found that a Master Cleanser fast would put me back on track. Right now I am looking at the idea of doing another one. Bad me. why am I dragging my feet. I know what will get me back on track. We all do know what will get us back on track, if we think about it. Margaret
Guest guest
Lesa: I am confused... are you afraid of being too skinny? It won't happen if you are eating healthy. then, again, we do have some subcultures which get very afraid of being slim (or revere PLUMP) I was quite surprised, about half way through to my weight goal, to discover that my closest friends were socked into a fat culture (basically, they had their minds conditioned to the idea that women of " a certain age " should " keep their weight up " ) My weight has gone down more than 100 lbs (okay I am up about 10 lbs right now) I think that is a good thing. I have never worried that I am not eating enough. I do eat proteins and fats (nuts, avocados, oils, etc.) in the amounts that I believe are appropriate, and I eat (duh) lots of fruit and vegetables. If I stop to look at the calories in my average day, when I am being a nice girl and not eating lots of cookies and cakes, I am sure that I am way below 1000 calories. I should be. I don't need tons of calories as long as the calories I take in keep me happy, feeling full, repairing my cells, etc. etc. so.... what do you mean by maintenance? do you mean maintenance like, you want to hold on to a plump body or do you more mean maintenance as it is referred to in the Atkins program? Guest guest
Wow Margret, Where are you coming from? I don't really understand your question from a raw food stand point. Am I hearing you correctly that you are not raw nor aiming for raw? If that is the case, I'd rather not being getting 'advice' from your perspective. If I am misunderstanding you, I'd like some clarification. AND, if you read my earlier posts and original questions you might have understood me more as I intended because I believe I gave plenty of background and information to answer these questions. Okay - now I'll try and answer your questions... Trimmed post w/answers and more info at the end - my answers are in ALL CAPS for ease of reading (not screaming at anyone:)) rawfood , " Margaret Gamez " <mgamez wrote: > > Lesa: > I am confused... are you afraid of being too skinny? AND I BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN BECOME UNHEALTHY BY NOT GIVING YOUR BODY ENOUGH FUEL (and in my lifetime, I have NOT had enough experience living the size that I currently am). > then, again, we do have some subcultures which get very afraid of > being slim (or revere PLUMP) I was quite surprised, about half > way through to my weight goal, to discover that my closest friends > were socked into a fat culture (basically, they had their minds > conditioned to the idea that women of " a certain age " should " keep > their weight up " ) L: THIS AGE & WEIGHT IDEA IS A NON-ISSUE FOR ME. > My weight has gone down more than 100 lbs L: THAT IS A WONDERFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT - YOU GO GIRL! (okay I am up about 10 lbs > right now) I think that is a good thing. I have never worried that I > am not eating enough. I do eat proteins and fats (nuts, avocados, > oils, etc.) in the amounts that I believe are appropriate, and I eat > (duh) lots of fruit and vegetables. L: IF YOU ARE EATING OILS, I'M NOT IN AGREEMENT W/YOU. YOU DIDN'T MENTION WHAT YOU BELIEVE ARE THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNTS OF FAT-FOODS (NUTS, AVOC ETC) SO I WON'T COMMENT. > If I stop to look at the calories in my average day, when I am being > a nice girl and not eating lots of cookies and cakes, I am sure that > I am way below 1000 calories. I should be. I don't need tons of > calories as long as the calories I take in keep me happy, feeling > full, repairing my cells, etc. etc. L: DID YOU NOTICE WHAT YOU SAID HERE? " WHEN YOU ARE A NICE GIRL... " THE CONCLUSION WOULD BE THAT NICE GIRLS ONLY EAT 1000 CALORIES AND YOU BEING NOT NICE DON'T NEED TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AS LONG AS YOU ARE HAPPY, FULL ETC... HMMM AND THE REFERENCE TO COOKIES AND CAKES - INDICATES TO ME A NON-RAW DIETARY CHOICE, AM I CORRECT? > so.... what do you mean by maintenance? do you mean maintenance like, > you want to hold on to a plump body L: WOW - YOU REALLY HAVEN'T BEEN FOLLOWING MY POSTS - I LET GO -- ONE MORE TIME - LET GO THAT MEANS THAT I DIDN'T LOOSE IT BECAUSE I'M NOT TRYING TO FIND IT AGAIN - OF 130#S THIS YEAR.... SO YOUR QUESTION IS A PUZZEL TO ME. or do you more mean maintenance as > it is referred to in the Atkins program? L: WHY WOULD I EVEN BE INTERESTED IN ATKIN'S DEFINITION OF MAINTENANCE IN A RAW FOOD GROUP? AND THE ANSWER IS NO - I DON'T FOLLOW OR CARE ABOUT ATKINS DEFINITION. > Margaret L: MORE INFO - So Margret, What I have been concerned with has been how to settle into this new size I live in and learn to stay close to the size I currently am. I also was chastised on another group for using calories as a guide as I learn how to live healthier in a smaller sized body - in fact I was told I was overeating and that I was a very poor example of a Natural Hyginist. I don't agree with the group owner who said this although it was her group and she's entitled, so I respectfully left the group. I was looking for some clarification on both the issue AND on my own uncomfortable-ness with the ups and downs of my current weight, which is fluctuating w/in about 10#s. I'm learning how even healthier versions of fat foods affect my body. I chose 80-90% of the time to avoid them completely. I am also learning that when I chose to eat mono meals which has been about 80-90% of the time, that I seem to be getting full on less caloric intake. Now, I went through a time a few months back when less caloric intake stalled my weight change and with help from Elchanan and Doug Graham, I made a change in the amount of sweet fruits and had a rather dramatic improvement w/in 2 weeks. After that experience, I am concerned that I do not repeat an unhealthy pattern and was asking for more guidence or information so that I can better learn how to live where I am. When I eat mono meals & w/lower caloric intake I do continue to let go of more weight - if that's still healthy and appropriate then I'm fine with that. I was asking long term raw foodies to share their experiences so that I could understand if this was another stage of the raw learning and lifestyle experience or if I was heading for another problem and needed to make a course correction. You probly understand, it's as if I stopped to ask directions, cause I read the map, think I understand where I'm going although this change in the road doesn't quite look like I thought it would. Thanks for your inquiry. You have helped me to clarify my questions, share more information and come up with a new analogy. It's all good. Guest guest
Lesa, Here is what Margaret wrote, in part: > > Lesa: I am confused... are you afraid of being too skinny? It won't happen if you are eating healthy. I think Margaret is dead-on with this assessment, though I also think more words would bring across greater clarity. But honestly, I respond similarly to this whole thread. I have a longer response coming ... but from where I sit, Margaret " got it " just perfectly, in ways that you have not yet got at all. Why do I say this? Because from my perspective, you and have have already had this entire conversation, months ago. More to follow, probably not today. Just a partial preview: maintenance has nothing to do with where you are, in my opinion.
