As a middle easterner.........I grew up with rice and yogurt. lol

I think that many cultures grew up with rice as a staple. Perhaps because it has

always been relatively cheap and a little goes a long way. We ate rice with

every single meal growing up.

I HAVE to stay away from rice because for me, there is no " I'll just have a

im cuban......you just hit on a MAJOR comfort food for aaaalll cubans!

when raw i dont eat it. Serves no purpose but to bloat me and

constipate. Theres no nutrition in white rice. I dont like

brown...didnt grow up eating it!

but rice is *supposed to be* a universal nonallergen. Asians eat

it..it works for them...they dont overeat though...i would! I looove

it...

i dont recommend it on a raw diet...its empty starch that wastes

nutrition calories better used elsewhere.

im sure elchanan has the straight poop on rice..id love to hear it..as

in Mexico City for years in the Lebanese community. We grew up with all the

yummy Lebanese/syrian foods. All of which use lot of rice and yogurt.Ok, I am

when I saw you refer to yourself as a middle easterner it caught my attention

because my husband is originally from Iran. He has been in the United States for

about 6 years now. I know his diet is a lot different than when he was in Iran!

yes, very....

i wonder what the stats were for fast food consumption during the

few weeks of contaminated baby spinach....

id be reeealll curious to see how many people switched to something

they " trust " ..either cooked stuff they made themselves, or more likely,

fast food they didnt have to cook cuz they dont have time...

salad is fast...

im not talking raw fooders that would just switch which green they eat,

im talking those marginal ones that eat it cuz its convenient..and theyre

trying to eat healthy..but the

second its not convenient,,go right back to what they know...

i can say this because i was tempted to do this too...i just switched

to lettuce...which i didnt really like much...cuz spinach salad is my

fav...but the temptation was there to just say, screw it, ill just

grab a burger...theyre so overcooked anymore there cant be anything

alive to kill me in them...

oh well....cant fix the world....just gotta be able to maneuver through

it...

peace

*raises hand* um...I'm there! The list of fruits and veges I can get from my

supplier is shrinking every day, along with the bananas I'm trying to get in

for my boy. I can get apples, oranges, lemons and limes. Bananas and

avocados are unripe. Pears are " available " but in small amounts. I can get a

few leafies here and there, partly why I'm asking what they are, so I know

what to get - my experience with veges is limited to potatos (or more

recently sweet potatos), pumpkin, with a side of peas or beans - do these

count as tender greens? I quite like them raw. Oh, and I can get Californian

dates for AU$27.99 a kilo (2.2lb).

I'm hanging out for summer when I can get mangos the size of my head, and

big, ripe bananas, and whatever other tropical goodies I've been drooling

over, but haven't been able to afford because I had to buy meat.

did i understand you right, that you eat beans raw?

8-O !

and no, potatoes, pumpkins, beans are not tender greens.

raw peas may not be bad..they are legumes, but they are

starch, not leafy..

elchanan,,,im curious about the peas...is there anything

potentially problematic about raw peas? ive never heard

there is , but i sure aint no expert....

Sorry, I forgot the language barrier ;oP I meant green beans, and yes, I

prefer them raw to cooked. Peas too, though I prefer snow peas. My boy eats

the snow peas straight out of the garden.

>and no, potatoes, pumpkins, beans are not tender greens.

Refering to cooked veges here, I'm a newbie to raw :o) We visit my parents'

place weekly, and they only know of cooked food, so that's what we have for

dinner there.

>elchanan,,,im curious about the peas...is there anything

Same here. I think I need the " Raw Food for Dummies " guide! I'm very

" simple " when it comes to foods, have had a very limited intake for most of

my life, so really have no clue how to distinguish between a legume, a leafy

green, and so on. As far as I know, lentils are legumes, potatoes are

starchy, and pumpkin is a vegetable...even though recently I discovered that

it's much more like a mellon fruit in that it grows on a groundcover vine

and has seeds in the middle, exactly like a mellon. I have no idea if it can

be eaten like a mellon though.

oooooo rriiicceeee...

im cuban......you just hit on a MAJOR comfort food for aaaalll cubans!

when raw i dont eat it. Serves no purpose but to bloat me and

constipate. Theres no nutrition in white rice. I dont like

brown...didnt grow up eating it!

but rice is *supposed to be* a universal nonallergen. Asians eat

it..it works for them...they dont overeat though...i would! I looove

it...

i dont recommend it on a raw diet...its empty starch that wastes

nutrition calories better used elsewhere.

im sure elchanan has the straight poop on rice..id love to hear it..as

a former rice addict..

it seems once he came here he has gone kinda wild with eating all kinds of

stuff! Right now he is not interested in going raw. He does eat a lot of fruit

so maybe little by little he will get there.

Re: [Raw Food] Middle Easterner

when I saw you refer to yourself as a middle easterner it caught my attention

because my husband is originally from Iran. He has been in the United States for

about 6 years now. I know his diet is a lot different than when he was in Iran!

but LSD...lol

[Raw Food] Middle Easterner

Jeannie where are you from?

jeannieh h <jeannieh99 wrote: mooove over you cubana............lol I

love your rice with plantains and black beans.......yummmm-o. I can eat myself

sick on those things.

As a middle easterner.........I grew up with rice and yogurt. lol

I think that many cultures grew up with rice as a staple. Perhaps because it has

always been relatively cheap and a little goes a long way. We ate rice with

every single meal growing up.

I HAVE to stay away from rice because for me, there is no " I'll just have a

little " .
