" Beans, beans, the musical fruit, the more you eat, the more you toot. "

Don't ya get it? If the human body could properly digest beans in any state,

this saying would not exist. After all, no one says

" Bananas, bananas, the musical fruit . " now do they??

Belinda,

I also loved cooked beans and rice. I have no ill effects from them because when

I soak them I add baking soda to the water which removes the enzyme that causes

the gas effect.

I still have dried beans in my pantry. Since I've been raw for 2 months now, I

have no use for them. However, I so love the taste of a good bowl of rice and

beans...(add some cornbread)......yummmm

When we don't respond to something, that typically suggests we lack the

capacity to do so . that something else is going on, or that our system is

rather run down and no longer able to respond at a certain level, that sort

of thing. So one possibility is the overall pattern of what you are eating.

If you are sufficiently dehydrated, and/or if your digestive system is

sufficiently blocked (and the two usually occur together), then you might

not observe the gas. But you cannot mix sugar starch water and oxygen (all

of which are present, at least to some degree, in your digestive system when

you eat beans, beans and rice, etc.) and not get fermentation . production

of alcohol. And at least some gas would emerge as a byproduct. But it's the

alcohol that's the real problem

Oh. Well, I don't know the answer as to why the bean do not seem to

cause me discomfort (most of the time). I have eaten beans of all

kinds all my life. I always figured my body was just use to them. LOL

I still eat one meal of cooked food a day. So I still eat beans

sometimes. I only discovered beans rice a few years ago. I grew up

eating pinto or white beans and cornbread. But now I like all kinds

of beans. From blackeyed peas, black or red beans, lima, butterbean,

purple hull peas, etc.

Oh and bean soup on a cold night is a favorite of mine.

I don't know if I will ever be 100% raw. The one time I tried, I did

it wrong I guess. I lost too much weight and was too weak and

thought I was going to freeze to death.

So I backed off and went at it more slowly. I do the raw thing much

better now. I have raw fruits and nuts in the morning, something

cooked at lunch and my favorite........green smoothie for supper.

In between, if there is in between, might be carrot apple juice,

fruit and/or nuts or seeds.

There are sometimes exceptions. I was with friends and ate a small

amount of some cooked foods,(you guessed it, beans was involved LOL)

and finished it off with some fruit that I had brought. Id id good

though, I ate the fruit and not the ice cream cake or cheese cake

that was calling my name.

I am still trying to figure out how to do the raw/healthy eating when

with a bunch of other folks that brings and eats anything and

everything. without drawing a lot of attention to myself or hurting

others feelings when I don't eat their dishes that they bring.

Other than the discomfort and odor..is there any reason to believe gas

by itself is bad?

it hurts cuz we dont cut loose..

we dont cuz loose cuz society doesnt like bad smells.

it smells bad cuz most of it is bad rotting food...but what if it

isnt....is there not naturally occurring non offensive gas that can

just be released? Do wile animals not have gas?

just curious.
