Guest guest
Recently when visiting family back east I had the pleasure of visiting one of New York's Raw Food Restaurants, Quntessence. Not too hard to find in the village it was a cute if small little place. We got there early so were the first patrons for the dinner crowd which gave us time to check out the place. Our hostess was a wonderful woman from Israel I believe and had the easy going personality that makes you feel at home. Now down to the food! We started out with flax seed crackers and corn chips with salsa and guacamole. Delicious! The flax seed crackers were not to hard or soft but just perfect and the corn chips mouth watering. Our entries were Mock Hamburger and a Curry Indian Dish both of which still have me salivating for them. My mother and I shared dishes and I could not stop saying through the whole meal " this is sooooo good! " We were both too stuffed to fit desert but I was almost sad to leave. It had me wishing for a place like this in Dallas Texas. I will defiantly be back but now that I'm home again I've started having dinner parties for my friends who are interested in raw food. Though in no way does my preparation even compare to Quntessence's fine dinning I've actually done, " according to my friends " , a pretty good job. One thing I wish had was the recipe for was the vegetable bread that Quntessence served with the raw burger! It was out of this world. If you get the chance defiantly check it out!!! Good Food Good Friends Lisa

Guest guest
I've never been to NY. I'm happy you had a good experience at the restaurant. I live in Houston. We don't have any raw restaurants. I wish we did. Well, I think there might be one but it is so far from me and I don't think it is a full fledged restaurant, I think it is a store that might have a food counter. It is not in a great neighborhood so I doubt I'll be checkin it out. I bought some flax crackers at whole foods....man, they were awful. lol So I hope the ones you had were better than these. I paid $6 for a small box of crackers. I will finish eating them and I hope by then I might make myself like them. lol My dh..spit them out. what a waste of food. But he is like that. I will at least try to make myself like something. I did find some Lara bars and like them alot. They are pricey but they are a nice raw snack to have handy in my purse. They will come in handy for " tight " spots when there is nothing but sad around me. It's good you have friends that at least are interested in raw food. None of my real time friends will go there. YET..lol I figure if I do loose weight and start looking good then maybe I will have a few converts. Until then, they just think it's weird. Sincerely, Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, I live in Florida and there are no raw restaurants anywhere near me, either, which is a big come-down from where I used to live--NYC, where there are many wonderful ones. I keep hoping someone will open one here. We have a large Meetup.com group here, so I think there will be one before too long. Meanwhile, it's really easy to make your own crackers! Easy Tasty Flaxseed Crackers (Recipe courtesy of www.RawFoodsNewsMagazine.com) Equipment needed: Food processor, Excalibur dehydrator Ingredients 1 cup flaxseeds (When you buy flaxseeds, buy them from a store that keeps them in a refrigerator, and then store them in your freezer until using them.) 1/2 cup chopped or sliced sweet or other variety of Onion Celtic salt to taste Chopped fresh herb of your choice (basil or dill or cilantro or oregano or rosemary or whatever) Optional: clove of garlic fresh juice of one lemon caraway seeds 1. Grind up flax seeds in a coffee grinder that you don't grind coffee in. 2. Process them with sliced onion, celtic salt, whatever fresh herbs you love, and maybe some fresh garlic and maybe some fresh lemon juice. 3. Remove from processor and mix in some caraway seeds. 4. Spread the batter out in a thin layer on unbleached parchment paper on top of a dehydrator tray. Score into rows and cross-rows with a butter knife. Dehydrate at 90 degrees. They will be ready in a few hours! Guest guest
Jeanieh, I make my own flax seed crackers and breads. Their great and nothing like the ones in the bags. You should try it. I started out with eating Lara Bars too but they are so heavy in sugar tha I've cut them out or my body just doesn't want anything that sweet. Now I keep on hand raw crackers for emergencies. Try hooking up with Raw food groups or pot lucks. Good Eating Lisa rawfood , jeannieh h <jeannieh99 wrote: > > I've never been to NY. I will finish eating them and I hope by then I might make myself like them. lol > > My dh..spit them out. what a waste of food. But he is like that. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I just came back from NYC and there are so many great raw food restaurants there I could have stayed. I also live in South Florida and raw food restaurants are hard to find. If you live in Broward county there is a raw food service which is great! You can reach them online at www.rawfoodadvisor.com. They deliver. Check them out. Rudy ______________________________\ ____ Got a little couch potato?
