Another recipe I found calls for the juice of 4 brown, mature

coconuts. I have not been able to crack a coconut and I was wondering

if I could juice the coconut that the HFS sells in chunks. I don't

think it has been dried...

Thanks,

Beth

You can go to youtube and see a vido on how to open a coconut. After that you

will see just how easy it is.

My first time I ruined a knife and wasted all the water in my coconut. Now

(after watching videos), I am a pro.

I wish I could find coconuts near me. They have them at the food store, but

they look all waxy and weird on the outside.

waxy and weird....ewww...that sounds too weird indeed.

Do you have a Whole Foods where you live? If not how about an asian market?

I've seen two kinds....the brown hairy one and the white one that looks like a

top. They say the white ones that look like tops are young coconuts and the

brown hairy ones are the older ones.

The nearest Whole Foods is a good hour away with traffic. I do go and stock

up on nuts and other bulks but I haven't seen any coconuts there. Our Whole

Foods has more conventional fruits and veggies than organic so I don't get

produce there. I stopped at my local health food store and he said he would

order me a few for next week so I'll wait and see what they look like.

Anyone know a good place to buy bulk and inexpensive raw nuts?

Do you have anything like a Trader Joe's? We don't here, but I have been to

the one in Phoenix. I have had them send me stuff by mail order.

Not that I have found. I asked the owner of the health food store I go to

and he said he would order some so I'll wait and see if they look any

better. I have been getting coconut water from him and it is my new

favorite drink!!

We don't have a Trader Joe's either. It sounds like I live in the sticks

LOL!! At least my local Stop and Shop has started carrying organic produce

which is more than I can say for most of the stores in the area.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Caroline,

Some people choose to order in ... to have organic produce shipped in.
