Guest guest
When I first started the raw fruit and vegetable diet in March, I was so glad that I was able to sleep through the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom. (That was the first time in years!) That lasted about 4 or 5 weeks. Now I find I have to get up every night (sometimes twice) to go to the bathroom, and it really disrupts my sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions? I try to finish my dinner by 8:30 every night. Is that too late? I go to bed at around 11:00 every night. Thanks for any suggestions or help on this matter!!! Guest guest
Thanks, Anna, I think that since I eat all fruits and vegetables for dinner (usually fruit an hour before dinner and then a big salad), most of my food has lots of water in it. Are there any raw foods that you can eat for dinner that do not have so much water? Thanks again! Guest guest
Hi Lynne, Good to " see " you again. I think our ideal foods have lots of water! :-) You might be able to rearrange your meals if you want and, for example, eat bananas for dinner instead of a higher water content fruit or lots of lettuce. That might help. I pee a lot when I eat lots of fruit, and I'll have to get up in the night if I eat fruit a few hrs. before bed. Guest guest
Speaking of sleep... I'm so proud of myself- I was 100% raw yesterday! Hooray! The problem is that I could not, for the life of me, fall asleep last night. We're talking 4:30 AM for me. So I got about 2.5 hours of sleep. YUCK. Is it normal for raw foods to have this affect on you at first? I know several of you have said that you don't need as much sleep, but did anyone have trouble sleeping? Maybe my blood sugar was too high and I had too much energy? Ideas? Solutions? HELP?!?!?!? I'm tiiiired.... ~k ______________________________\ ____ Be a better Globetrotter. Guest guest
I have been feeling the same way lately but I thought it was because my hubby was working over nights and he wasn't there to sleep next to me. I woke up every hour or so and I didn't fall asleep until after 1am. I so know how you feel!!! Right now my daughter wants to go for a walk so I need to go find some energy. Guest guest
Hi Laurie! It's nice to see you again, too!! That sounds like a good idea! I really, really dislike getting up in the middle of the night, and sometimes it takes a long time to fall back asleep! Even though I don't get tired during the daytime anymore, I don't like to have my sleep interrupted. It's funny, but during the first 5 weeks of being on this diet, I NEVER had to get up to go to the bathroom. It was lucky, since I couldn't walk and was on crutches, so it was very good timing for being able to sleep through the night. If I ate bananas with date sauce for dinner, would that work? I remember reading that dates are pretty low in water content. By the way, I finally found the FRESH dates at WHOLE FOODS. I'm loving them!! Guest guest
-Elchanan, No, I am definitely NOT overweight. I weigh 126 pounds and I am 5' 6 1/2 " tall. I used to weigh 137, but I lost about 11 pounds since starting the 80 10 10 diet about 3 months ago. I am a size 10 now, as opposed to a size 12. I was never really overweight, since I used to follow the macrobiotic diet before I started the raw fruit and vegetable diet. Guest guest
Kerri, No, it is not " normal " , in the long run, for one to be awake all night. At the same time, as you life the veil of a long-term, food-induced semicoma, your system will respond in all sorts of ways until you regain your own sense of balance. It's your first day ... enjoy, rejoice, and be patient. Much will unfold before you. Guest guest
Great, Lynne, that eliminates one possibility. ALL overweight (overfat) people are dehydrated 24x7, and so they all experience some degree of chasing hydration. Has anything changed recently, as in the follow-up to your recent surgery? For example, did you add or remove some pain meds, anything like that? Guest guest
No, not really. I never took many of the pain killers. All together, I took 3 pills. I did have to give myself blood thinner shots for ten days, and I needed to take baby aspirin for another week after that ended. That was about it. I can't think of any other changes. I " m never thirsty and I hardly drink any water at all, but I do consume lots of fruits and raw salads and smoothies. Thanks, LYnne > > Great, Lynne, that eliminates one possibility. Guest guest
All sounds pretty harmless in the present, as if your body is simply rehydrating itself following a long drought (i.e., life on cooked foods). One thought: leave a nice space between your last meal and your bedtime, at least 3-4 hours. Perhaps you already do this. Beyond that, I'd just be patient, let your system make whatever adjustment it needs to make. Oh, are you eating any salt at all? Guest guest
Elchanan, As far as I know, I " m not consuming any salt other than the naturally occurring salt in celery and other vegetables and fruits. I probably NEED to put more space between dinner time and bedtime though. Sometimes, I go to sleep just an hour after my last snack of dates. Sometimes, because of our schedule with the kids and physical therapy, I don't get to eat dinner until 8:30 or 9:00, and then bed at 11:00, which is really too soon after eating a large dinner salad. Thanks for the advice! I'll try to stop eating by 7:00. I " ll just need to eat my dinner BEFORE I go to PT.
