Guest guest
I LOVE BANANAS. I do not eat them because of any " philosophy " or because of a specific benefit. I do believe that there is a reason why I crave bananas at times (when I was rowing, in particular, my body wanted a banana or two after a hard workout...and then a couple of hours later...) Even before I got interested in raw foodism, I would eat at least a bunch of bananas every week. Now it's just another reason to keep buying them! So ..... is there such a thing as too many bananas? one of my co-workers keeps trying to tell me I need to be careful... ~k ______________________________\ ____ Take the Internet to Go: Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. http://mobile./go?refer=1GNXIC

A 'friend' of mine has a sister who's a nurse, and she's always coming up with reasons why I'm doing things wrong. One was that I was wasting my time breastfeeding past 6 months, because after then it " has no nutritional value " *rolls eyes*. Another was that I had to be careful how many bananas my boy ate, because if you " have more than 2 a day, you can die from potassium poisoning " . This was when he was having at least half a dozen bananas a day. I've also been told that drinking more than 3 litres of water a day will kill you instantly, but I routinely drink 4-6 litres a day (except yesterday, I was too cold!). Guest guest
- Laurie Swanson >Good lord! Where do people get these ideas? Sadly, a lot of people learn them during medical training - either as a doctor, a nurse, a medical scientist *hand up*, paramedic, or whatever. The rest learn it from their doctor, or from a publication, usually funded by companies that produce infant " food " , formula, sports drinks, soft drinks, and so on. There have been quite a few " facts " I've had to convince myself aren't true, because they're spouted everywhere, and everyone I meet seems to think I need to hear them because I'm killing myself and my boy. These include, but aren't limited to, - children NEED cows milk after the age of 1 year (but not before, because they magically lose their allergies to it exactly 365 days after birth), though now they're saying that toddlers need to go onto toddler formula after weaning from the breast (preferably at 6 months, when they go onto stage 2 formula) - children MUST be started on solids at or before 6 months of age, because if they're not, they will never learn to eat " real " food, because that window of learning closes the day they turn 6 months - we NEED meat for protein, the more the better, and brains can't develop without red meat. If we're not having meat, we NEED nuts and/or legumes for protein, and hundreds of kilos of spinach for iron - fruit is bad because it has too much sugar in it; we should have no more than 2 pieces of fruit a day - fruit juice is bad because of all the sugar in it (the same people who tell me this give their toddlers coke and/or cordial to drink instead) - we need " carbs " (ie starches), though no one's quite sure why - forgetting the fact that " carbs " are sugars strung together. Though I didn't believe half of this, I'm still having to completely relearn everything I ever knew about food and nutrition, and avoid every person I know in the process. My own mother is accusing me of not giving my son a balanced diet, because he's not having meat or veges (carbs), then turned around and laughed when I counted out his dozen almonds to have for dinner (then went again and gave him more!). Guest guest
Hi Caron, Well, I know the medical profession is way off, but hadn't heard anything as far out as those! And not being a parent, I haven't had to deal with all the wonderful advice regarding babies that it sounds like is out there! That is one thing that I really hate to see, though--powerless infants being force-fed, or children who are so frustrated (probably due to being hopped up on sugar and processed foods). And then the " health nuts " get all the criticism! Sheesh! Laurie rawfood , " Caron " <carongroups wrote: > > > - > Laurie Swanson > >Good lord! Guest guest
Hi Caron and all, Here is a simple yet remarkably reliable rule of thumb: It it has to do with health, and if you learned it from a " reputable source " , it's probably wrong. Guest guest
Yes, I generally find that the larger part of teaching about health lies in the unteaching .. _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Caroline G Gomes Thursday, June 21, 2007 5:27 AM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] going bananas!
