I'd like to find advice/opinions/experience/information regarding the

differences between cow milk - both raw and not, raw nut milks, homemade

soy milk (can it be raw??), and purchased in a store soy milk. Currently

we're giving DS soy milk from the store because he previously didn't do

well w/ cow's milk. We've not tried raw cow's milk nor raw nut milks

(though we did try almond milk and rice milk in cartons from Trader

Joe's). I'd like to find something fairly nutritious, good for him,

tasty, etc. He is getting the majority of his nutrition from solid foods

- he'll be 20 months old soon - so I'm not concerned with the that. I'd

like what he intakes to be well assimilated. I'm leaning towards raw nut

milks because I know I can make those easily. I've started researching

making soy milk, but so far all I've found is about cooking the soy

beans and I'd prefer raw, soaked if possible. Any ideas where I might

find some info on nutrition for these various types of milk/mylk? Any

resources for how-to make, etc?

He gets water. He gets green tea, lemon water, and the occasional

watered-down-cloudy juice. What I'm looking for is a replacement for the

sippy of soy milk he has several times per day. He was breastfed until

about 16 months. After that ended we tried cows milk but he didn't

tolerate that well and I'm loathe to try him on it again. I'd rather not

buy cows milk at all really. For the same reason I don't drink only

water, I want something other than just water to give my children.

Hi Melissa,

Are you still breast feeding at all? That is the only milk humans are

designed to drink.

Melissa,

I have seen recipes for things like herbal punch for kids whereas you steep

various herb and then mix them w/grape juice or apple juice. The herbs are

immune boosters etc. stuff like that. The book I saw it in was An Encyclopedia

of Natural Healing for Children and Infants. Also, what about fresh juice? My

12 year old loves apple-celery. Or diluted carrot are green drinks. Oh what

about nut milks?

I'm curious as to why you don't drink only water (love to learn new things

about people ;o) )

Are you aware that relactation is possible? (not saying you should or

shouldn't, and you don't have to answer this, but if you're specifically

looking for milk...)

Other than that, my boy drinks soda water that we fizz at home using the

sodastream, so has less salt than soda water from the shops, if any - this

about half a cup a couple of times a week, if that. He has a bit of orange

juice if he asks for it, since I started having it myself (a couple of

months ago) - probably half an inch in the bottom of a cup, every other day

or a couple of times a week. The rest of the time he has breastmilk or

water. If we're out for lunch, which is rare these days, I get us a fruit

juice made with whole fruits - apple, pineapple, cantelope, carrot and

mango, usually (the carrot and apple are put through a juicer, the rest are

blended) - he has a small one with ice, and usually drinks about half, and

that's our lunch (have been doing this since he was about...20 months?

somewhere there. he's now 34 months).
