(second day) I ate my salad with raw apple cider vinegar and it was soooo " vinegary " . I didn't have the salt to temper the acid taste of the vinegar. I ate it anyway because I was hungry. lol I am going to keep trying this experiment. I hope I can get past this " not liking the taste of my food " time. Jeannie, you're doing really well, trying this again despite not liking it the first time ) Have you tried having your salad without the lemon or vinegar? Taste the salad on its own. It won't taste strong, or spicy or lemony or vinegary, it'll taste like salad. Just a side note, I like the taste of lemon, and apple cider vinegar, but not straight - I diliute them before drinking, in at least half a litre of water per little bit (vinegar probably a tea spoon; or the juice of a whole lemon), and they taste quite nice, if not sweet or salty. I even like the taste of fresh water (filtered or rain water), and most people, who use a lot of condiments, and drink only sweet foods, think water tastes horrible at best. >Do you EVER feel the need to enhance flavors? occasionally I might crave a curry or soup with a bit of spice in it, but I prefer without. If you get organically grown, naturally ripened fruits and veges, they taste soooooo much better than those soaked in pesticides and gas ripened (sometimes I wonder if they paint them the right colour before sending them to the store!) stuff they have in the supermarkets. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, First, you need not do everything at once. At the same time, realize that all these flavor enhancers are intended to do one thing: mask the real flavor of the foods. Give your system time to heal your taste buds and sense of smell. Then things will all seem quite a bit different. I used to eat lots of salt, spices, of every conceivable type. Now, I imagine most of them would taste horrific to me (though I have no intention of finding this out ... I've experimented a couple of times, that was enough for me! Guest guest
Jeannie and Caron, This comment (below) reminds me of a great suggestion that I forgot to mention earlier. Take some fruit that you enjoy, cut it up into small pieces, and sprinkle that into your salad ... instead of any vinegar or lemon juice. At this point, I cannot even remember when I last used lemon juice on anything. Transitioning takes some time ... your body needs time to heal your taste buds ... then they'll function entirely differently. I'll add avocado to make it a little thicker and more like a dip for carrots or broccoli. Try different things and see what you like. I was never really a fan of salt so this part is not an obstacle for me. Guest guest
Elchanan, You continue to give me hope....thanks. It is difficult. I mean from childhood we are given sad foods that are, of course, seasoned. Seasonings are in every type of foods all over the world. Even vegans, vegetarians....every ethnic foods, you name it... I have never heard Nutritionists tell anyone not to use salt of spices..only to limit use of salt for the sodium factor. Anywho......I am going to continue to try to do this for the 60 days and hope it catches on with my taste buds...lol Thanks, Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one.
