Guest guest
We have TVs, but we don't watch them very often. I didn't realize this until last week- a co-worker asked what we watch in the evenings if we don't have cable....I really didn't know what to say...b/c my husband and I just watch movies and we buy DVDs of our favorite shows.....and every once in a while I watch the news. We will probably always have one tv. But I'd like to enjoy life without the television being the center of it all! ______________________________\ ____ oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. http://mobile./mobileweb/onesearch?refer=1ONXIC
Guest guest
We are big tv watchers. I enjoy the lighter stuff, American Idol, Dancing with the stars, My dh loves to watch all the crime/drama shows like CSI, Law & Order...those type of shows. We watch alot of movies. Actally that is just about all we do. We don't go out. I must admit I hated tv years ago. I was never a TV watcher. My dh is an avid tv watcher, in the begining I was always so upset about it. I finally decided to stop fighting him on it. Now we watch tv together. Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one. Guest guest
We have a lot of TVs in the house and we don't use them that often. I will turn it on the nights I'm not working while I crochet and I only let me daughter watch educational shows for 30-45 minutes in the afternoon if we are home and she wants to relax a little. I enjoy watching movies but I don't go out too often. There are only 2 shows I watch every week. One is the new one, Traveler, and I watch Lost when it is on. Other than that, mostly back ground noise. We shut off our cable for 2 years a while back, right after my daughter was born, and we did just fine. We talk about every so often, but the internet fee almost doubles without having cable so it isn't worth it. I'm off to sleep Nighty, night all Caroline rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of jeannieh h Saturday, June 23, 2007 10:58 PM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] Re: Televisions We are big tv watchers. Guest guest
Jeannie, you've got to try to wean yourself off-just limit it Although I had a a really bad addiction to House last season Then I heard that Hugh Laurie was hosting SNL-a show I never watch and it was pretty bad I thought-anyway when he came out DH thought Laurie was faking a brit accent-I said he is british! He's a great actor I think anyway yes screen time of any kind really doesn't help shed pounds-unless you move around while you're watching! Guest guest
Em, The expression " aint gonna happen " applies here. You don't know my husband. He is the ultimate tv junkie. He loves tv. The times I have tried to turn it off he got mad. I don't like my husband mad. If we had perhaps an alternative to tv it would be great. Especially if it were something HE came up with. Or if I could come up with something he would go for. He loves to watch Lost and House. Watching tv is our " together time " . Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one. You'll have so much more free time. You won't be constantly planning your life according to a tv schedule. It may not be so for you, but for so many tv is so much of their life. They watch it at home, they talk about it at work, they talk about it socially. They spend time planning to watch it. They spend time thinking about the shows. They get recorders to record the shows they miss while working overtime. They work overtime to pay for recorders to record the shows they miss... I would even cheekily suggest an Elchanon test. Give it up for a month. Totally. Instead use your new free time to get back in touch with nature. Watch the sun set and the dusk settle to dark. Listen to the birds. Really feel your feet in contact with the earth. Feel the soft support when standing on grass. Go and stand still, wait and see what then shows itself. Nature will quieten the mind and fill you with peace if you let it. I stop writing this for a moment and look out the window to see the tell-tale shape of a hawks' wings, away in the distance, high up in clouds and sky of pastal shades of grey and white. It slowly turns around and around effortlessly gliding on invisible currents. It is perfect. And it is always there just waiting to be noticed. neal. Guest guest
-Hi Jeannie, my hubby got some <ahem> copies of the Sopranos a few weeks back- we don't have cable I never thought I would get pulled in abut we ended up on the couch for quite a few nights watching the back episodes and sometimes eating & drinking...well it wasn't good for me so I stopped-now he misses that as our time together but I am trying to do healthier things together/apart. It s been quite an interesting process- When he met me he tried to get me to eat steak and to smoke One day when I was leaving our apartment to go for a run the (very cute) tenant told me he had heard that my DH & I were gettting married and well he looked into our recycling bin and pointed at it and said good luck with that-DH was a bigtime Jolt cola drinker and he knew that he smokes anyway we are complete opposites... but enough about that if that is your time together that is great-I was just pointing put that I have heard that tv watching can slow weight loss but it was probably just another one of those stupid research things... Guest guest
Em, No, No, I am sure that is correct. It is not my " activity of choice " . It is just one of those " pick your battles " type of thing. He did make one concession. We do not eat while watching tv. Dinner is our time to sit, eat and enjoy conversation. I try to get my excercise in at other times. I walk my dog (Bugs) and I go up and down my stairs (my stairmaster....lol). I also try to park far and take elevators when possible. I try to do my work out videos also. My dh is not the excercising type. He refuses to. I have stopped trying to change him. He is the way he is. I am just hoping that in time, (as he sees me progress) he will want to jump on the band wagon. If he does I'll be so happy, If he doesn't well, I knew how he was before we got married. My husband and I are complete opposites also. We have both done alot of compromising. Marriage takes alot of constant work. It is a constant work in progress, however,(for me) the most worth it work I could ever have. I love and am in love with my dh. Though we could pull each others hair out at times....lol I do not smoke or drink alcohol. The funny thing about my dh is that when we met........he smoked. He didn't drink. I told him at that time that if he wanted to be with me he would have to stop smoking because I can not tolerate being around it and will not. LOL Guess what?? He quit!! Yippie. So we had a green light to proceed with our relationship. I promise you, if I could find an activity that he would enjoy (me too) I would so turn off the tv. However, for now, it is a time that we really take advantage of as " our time " to continue bonding. I'm open for suggestions. (He is not easy) After a stressful day at work, he is basically lazy when he gets home. LOL Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one.
