I have soaked my oats groats overnight

and then cooked them in abit of water

-but they were so soft that it seemed that they didn't need to be cooked.

I would mix in some blueberries and eat.

I think I will sprout them after I finish with my lentils and prepare

them the same way -with blueberries

As for buckwheat groats I havn't found any except for the kasha which

I cook and eat in things such as stuffed cabbage.

Thanks for getting me to pull out the groats-it will be interesting to

eat them as sprouts in comparison to the porridge I love.

Sounds about what I would do too. :)

You're probably right that oats don't need all

that many hours of soaking to be ready to eat.

Well, I ask because I'm looking to try some of the old

favorites without cooking. But, I also don't want to

get into sprouting. So, if soaking is enough, cool.

Otherwise, I guess they go by the wayside.

I have tried just soaking quinoa and it tasted and digested

just fine. Turns out it and buckwheat groats are not really

grains, after all.

I too have soaked quinoa (after rinsing it) and cook it in an

excellent dish with veggie stock but for the raw uncooking aspect I do

think it is faster than the groats and does need to be paid attention too

Let me know how it grows with you and I'll share my experiences too :-)

Speaking of groats has anyone tried Seitenbacher's Musli #21 the ingredients

are Rolled Oats, Barley Flakes, Raisins, Cashew Kernels, Almonds, Dates,

Apricots, Sunflower Kernels, Flax Seeds, Seseme Seeds very yummy it's to be

eaten cold with milk (which is a no no for me) yogurt or juice.

It makes great cookies also with alittle almond butter and stevia unbaked of

course could even add some coccoa powder to it. Then refrigerate also yummy.

Food combining is something new to me so I suppose all those ingredients

shouldn't be mixed at one meal I don't know...?

Erin,

Can you tell me exactly what groats are? I know that there are groats in my

parrots food. I just have never heard of groats as far as human food. I bought

some groats at whole foods. Just about a little more than a handful. Just

because I wanted to see what I could do with them. They were only a $1.99 per

pound so it was not bad at all.

[Raw Food] groats

Anyone here eat oat and/or buckwheat groats? Do they

need to be sprouted or would an overnight soak be enough?

How do you like to prepare/eat them?

Thanks,
