Guest guest
Oh man, Belinda, I don't know if you realize the can of worms you opened up asking what 2012 is all about XD To give you the gist of it, the Mayans were great astronomers and mathematicians. They figured out astrological cycles, and made a very advanced calendar that is used in our own today. Their calendar was called the Mayan Long Count, if you want to look it up yourself. They were able to predict many events well into the future, thousands of years. And their calendars just end on what is by our count December 21st, 2012--the winter solstice. The shamans or people who were doing the looking forward saw it as the end of the present age, whatever that may have meant. So, there is now all this speculation about what will happen--will the world just end, or will an age end, and a new one begin? Will there be massive destruction and extinction? And all that. The weird thing is that the Egyptians reached this same date as the limits of their count of time, too. And there's a numerology aspect to it, the cast that the date will be 12/21/12 which adds up to 3/3/3 which adds to 9, the number of completion. Which is kind of neat, but I don't know how much that means, since it's just a calendar counting from when Jesus was born, and not the one the Mayans (or Egyptians) were using. Anyway, it is kind of exciting, and I am, like many others, hoping something exciting is coming ; ) Jen _______________ Hotmail to go? Guest guest
Thanks for the explanation. There has been people since the begining of time trying to predict when the " end " will come. So far, no one has been able to do it. The times of their predictions come and they go, and life goes on. There is plenty of excitement and chaos to come. That is for sure. But no one knows when it will be. Though it is fun to speculate. But it will happen. That is for sure. Thanks again, Belinda P.S. Boy I sure hope I didn't open a can of worms. There have been enough complaints about off topic stuff. > Oh man, Belinda, I don't know if you realize the can of worms you opened up > asking what 2012 is all about XD > > To give you the gist of it, the Mayans were great astronomers and > mathematicians. Guest guest
yes..there are many spending a great deal of money to make sure it does... it is interesting..but when looking at the circular mayan calendar i cant help but notice how tight it all is..it seems to me 2012 is the date they picked cuz they ran out of room...8-) apocalyptic thinking is as old as religion..and yet it never happens...except to us individually...the question would be, what is it in our collective unconscious that consistently returns to this theme? Is it our DNA's way of forecasting its own apocalypse ie. Death?....this is my theory... we write what we think we think what we fear we fear the end of our lives because we WILL die we write it as the " end of time " because we are self centered and arrogant animals but the " time " that ends is just our own. just a thought... peace anna On 6/27/07, Belinda <MistyBlueTN wrote: > Thanks for the explanation. Guest guest
I was just remembering this too. What chaos and worry! Gracious, even many in the Christian community jumped on that band wagon. And they should know better, for that is not the teaching of Christians. So the next biggie is 2012. For me, I expect it most anytime. The world, as whole seems to be gettn' more chaotic by the hour. Symbols used to manipulate the public mind. Y2K was really nothing more than a media frenzy designed to dupe the world, fill people with the fear you describe. It was not true. The sole purpose of 'the media' is the manipulation of the public mind. Nothing more. If as I did, one worked in the computer industry and understood computer systems, then planes would not be dropping out of the sky, it was merely expeditious to have that idea accepted in the public mind. Fear is the best tool for manipulation. Most critical systems whose failure may have had safety issues were not at risk. Most of these systems do not take into account date and time type information, because they just need to work now, as in continuously. The only danger in reality was the risk to commercial interests and the financial computer systems they rely on. They depend completely on date and time type information. i.e. as in booking and billing... The true mystery of life is that in the next moment you may be gone. Not the next day or week or 2012, but the next moment. You may not even get to the end of this sentence! That is one of the uncomfortable truths that we are not usually asked to think about. we either live now or live for tomorrow. neal.
