Why eating flesh triggers elevated violence in humans (WAS: Killing is killing ... (WAS: Garlic Redux))

Hi Belinda and all,

1. The animals knows it is about to be killed.

2. The animal is terrified.

3. The animal undergoes a fight-or-flight response, releasing loads of

adrenalin etc. into its system.

4. We slaughter the animal.

5. We eat all those hormones ... " natural " in every respect.

None of this is questionable. The ONLY question is, " What does a load of

adrenaline do to us? "

1. Shifts blood flow from the forebrain to the hindbrain (limbic brain).

Supports quick, reactive decision-making and reactive behavior. Diminishes,

or virtually shuts off, reason/logical thinking, problem solving, intuitive

awareness, etc. In other words, we become less intelligent, more reactive,

and prone to both violence (fight) AND fear (flight).

2. Shifts blood flow from the central organs (digestion etc.) and toward the

arms, legs, etc. Supports super-intensive physical activity, as if life and

death were at stake (as is supposed to occur). In other words, ordinary

healthful activity, such as digestion, vital responses (what the medical

world calls " immune responses " ), etc. come largely to a halt. These are

important but not urgent; the perceived emergency that triggered the

fight-or-flight response is BOTH important ... vital ... AND urgent.

All this explains why there is no such thing as a vegetarian army ... the

concept is an oxymoron. Throughout the history of warfare, generals have

known full well that they should feed the troops flesh as the approach a big

battle.

There is more, but hopefully this will get you pointed in the " right "

direction.

Best,

Elchanan

I disagree with the theory that eating meat makes one aggressive of

violent and eating veggies only makes one non-aggressive, non violent.

I think it is in their nature to be what they are.

Maybe, but I think it has more to do with the fact that it would be

impractical to feed an army veggies only. Because you must eat to

often.

Meat is about the only food you can eat and it stay with you for many

hours at a time.

Eat a big breakfast of eggs, bisquits, gravey, fried potatoes, and a

big piece of meat. You won't need to eat again for many, many hours.

(if i ate this now, I would be nauseous.)

Meat is a source of food that the body can get by on for hours and

ideal for those that might be in situations where they don't get the

opportunity to eat often. If dried, you don't even have to have a

cooler to take it with you.

In other words, soldiers can't be grazing and pottying all day.

I eat eggs, but unfortunately not raw. If I could find a supply that I could

reasonably determine to be safe I would much prefer to eat them raw.

This is a very good point Belinda. I am not 100% RAW, I just do what is

possible given the means I have to work with. Over the time I've been reading

posts on this list I have slowly come to a similar view, that I would need to

be a grazing animal in order to satisfy all the nutritional requirements

through veg alone. A juicer would obviously obviate this problem.

but I don't remember being born with a juicer in hand. LOL

nor have I heard of any archaeology sites turning up fossilized juicers.

I have seen my day over the ears break and egg in a glass and just

swallow the whole thing.

I never could bring myself to do it.

My brother (who was always into muscle building) use to mix up some

kind of stuff in a blender that included raw eggs and drink it.

(not commercial stuff, but stuff just out of the kitchen)

or a blender either.:o) Though I do use both. I love the green

smoothies. And believe them to be better than the juice, because you

get the whole thing.

But I still drink carrot/apple juice when I take the time to make it.

<whisper> I also would imagine man throughout history, consuming

garlic too. (at least the ones that lived where it would grow)
