Hi Caron and all,

I don't know. Why do doctors recommend a daily aspirin and glass of wine to

prevent heart disease? And irradiation of the breasts to " detect breast

cancer early " ? Go figure ... :)

I find it much easier to consider that age-old question, " Why did the

chicken cross the road? " At least some semblance of rationality remains.

1. Not raw.

2. Not food ... for us OR for bovines.

3. Grain is also not food ... for us or for bovines. Roughly 1/2 of all the

sodium bicarbonate sold in the U.S. is fed to cows, who experience awful

indigestion when they are fed grains.

Thanks for the clarification, Elchanan. I'm still a little confused as to

why some recommend it as part of a raw food diet, but then there's a few

things recommended that aren't exactly raw or food.

Re it being fed to the cattle, there was no grass, and the molasses and

grain was to supplement the hay. When it rained, they just grazed. I know

they feed grains at dairies here, and yes, they have salt licks - my

stepdad's uncle had a dairy farm that we used to go to, and we'd actually

mix the salt in with the grains for them to eat while they were milked. They

had access to that for the length of time they were on the machine, the rest

of the time they grazed. I know it's probably different on different farms.

I like regular molasses, just not the blackstrap molasses.

It is good that you like blackstrap molasses, because, if memory

serves me, it is a good source of iron, and it seems like some other

nutrients too. (it has been a while since I was studying this)

If its just about taste, don't get the organic version, I found it more bitter

than the ordinary product. YMMV

neal.

LOL. It was, in fact, in the context of a thread on

iron deficiency that I first made mention of it. ;)
