Guest guest
hi joe, as a former reactive hypoglycemic....(who discovered it really is all about the FAT, NOT the sugar..).... i noticed that you lumped watermelon in with cherries as high sugar fruits, this isnt true,,cherries are very low-glycemic..one of the lowest..and watermelon one of the highest....cherries and berries....very low reactive response... i say this only to point out that you may benefit from understanding which fruits may be a problem and which may not.....at least FOR NOW, because ultimately you should be able to eat ANY fruit with no issues..this is nature's design..it would make no sense whatsoever for caveman to end up with " adrenal stress " because he ate some watermelon...the only food available for miles....thats nuts... now i dont personally believe there is anything called " adrenal stress " ..what is that?? the adrenals are firing off epinephrine into your blood? thats not stress, that their job.. triggered by too little sugar in your blood....it doesnt " stress " them at all to do their job...its what theyre SUPPOSED to do.... does it stress your tear ducts to cry? epinephrine/adrenaline is released when your blood sugar is too LOW...after insulin has been used and it didnt work, so even more is used... .....this is usually insulin resistance, caused by too high a FAT content in your blood....too much insulin will drop your sugar too low. if " hyperinsulinism " or too much insulin is whats happening, you end up hypoglycemic, ie. too LOW in sugar and the body *must* raise it...symptoms are irritability, headache, shakiness, etc....it will raise it with adrenaline....which puts sugar in your blood so you can run or fight.....which is why one gets raging mad when " hypoglycemic " ...its actually right *after* your sugar was low, but is now high all of a sudden...if your sugar is really low, you will pass out... i have NEVER heard of " adrenal stress " much less that it causes circles under the eyes....ive always equated that with low iron... if youre eating fruits that are " too high in sugar " and are causing " adrenal stress " then dont eat those fruits....calm your system down by eating low-glycemic fruits like berries and cherries....and check your fat sources...you may have to make those changes slowly, like i did... i used to react to any fruit! half an apple would zing me!..if i had fruit on an empty stomach my hands were shaking within 30 minutes from the monster shot of insulin then adrenaline my body would shoot out, just to get my sugar down and back up......i used to eat a LOT of fat...fast food junkie here...happily recovered (well, almost)... now, i can eat nothing but fruit and fruit smoothies....and damn if i virtually NEVER get shaky....my sugar is fine.... Elchanan and Graham are right, its the fat.... -- Anna " A fool can not understand wisdom even if he associates with a sage. Guest guest
Thanks Anna, Yes I agree with everything about the fat But trust me, the only thing that is different is that I've started eating a lot more melon, like every day, because it is in season now for organic ones. This is the only thing! Also, since the dark rings on my eyes appeared my libido has decreased quite a bit, whereas just before it was on fire and my eyes had also been looking quite alive and clear and not dark. Maybe it is because I switched out the apples and other low glycemic fruits for the melons? Maybe those combined with the FEW grams of fat I eat 8 hours later work together. I will switch back to apples etc and see what happens. I don't like looking like a raccoon! Guest guest
Hi Joe, If the combination of sugar and fat is not good, and you have recently increased your consumption of sugar (sweeter fruits), then it makes sense that you would feel the effects of that poor combination more so now. What if you tried to decrease or cut out the fat instead of the sugar for awhile, since that is the more harmful element? I realize that might be more difficult... Just an idea. Thankyou, Anna! That whole post was an excellent explanation, and something I've been trying to get my head around for years - since my little brother started on solids actually. He's one of those VERY cranky hypoglycemics, and I got like that when my insulin issues started too, during uni (incidentally, when my butter-on-toast intake went up).
