I may be having a reaction to tomatoes and grains make me fat. LOL

So, if you didn't eat gluten, meat, dairy, eggs, tomatoes, or grains,

what would you eat? I just cannot afford to only eat fruits and

veggies. I will have to learn to garden next year. I'm just

frustrated.

And you are cutting out all non-gluten grains? I think you should give

yourself at least one serving of quinoa or rice in a given day. If you

exercise, you'll burn it off easily.

Hi Shannon;

What makes you think that grains make you fat?? Have you tried being very

selective about avoiding the gluten grains? Those may have been causing

bloating, a temporary feeling of fatness rather than an actual increase in body

fat.

A standard whole foods vegan diet is divided into 4 main groups:

1) whole grains (in our case, the gluten-free ones: teff, amaranthe, tapioca,

millet, quinoa, rice, sorghum, some people can tolerate oats from the UK)

2) fruits

3) veggies (which includes root veggies like beets, carrots, potatoes; squashes,

green leafies, etc)

4) legumes (dried beans and peas; as well as various nuts and seeds).

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine offers this Vegetarian Starter

Kit that you may find helpful: http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/index.html

i may be way out of line here, and being way too picky, but... it has

irritated me in the past that people are talking eating/posting recipes

which contain ingredients like butter and honey. this is a vegan list,

right?! i've ignored it, because butter and honey are easy to

substitute. but fish is fish is fish... is not vegan.

best wishes

I can't eat tomatoes either. :(

But grains should not be a problem. They aren't fattening; but what you put

*on* them may be the culprit! ;)

Hi Shannon,

My daughter, Asia (9) is highly allergic to tomatoes. She has never been able

to eat them and in the beginning when she first had them they caused her to have

seizures. :o( We substitute peanut butter sauce or pesto for her. When we make

her GF pizza we make her's oriental and use peanut sauce (home made) and top it

with broccoli, bean sprouts, snow peas and a little oregano. It really is

yummy.

As for the grains... Shannon.. grains do not make people fat. I am a

nutrition consultant and I know this for a fact. Grains are low in fat and most

likely it is the stuff you mix with them that would add extra calories. What

makes you think they make you fat? How do you feel after you eat them? Which

ones do you eat? Sorry for the questions, I just want to understand better.

Grains are a healthy. low fat food. It is possible to go without them, but I

just wanted to mention that they are not fattening.
