Guest guest
Does anyone here suffer from Celiac Disease, or cooking for a family member with it? My daughter suffers terribly and has taken a survey for this and was " positive " for 21 out of 24 symptoms. Please help if you can in pointing me in the right direction for her as far as testing and diagnosis. Thanks so much in advance. Guest guest
www.enterolab.com. go on an order the $199 test (think that is what it still cost) to see if she is Celiac. this is a great place to get encouragment and ideas. when you realize it is not so bad and it is just about training the mind on what to eat again she will feel sooooo much better. i no longer suffer and wonder if i am crazy because now i know how to treat this. which is to eat gluten and wheat free. i am also a vegetarian which makes it harder but i love a challenge!!!! then i would just google celiac and there is so much info on the web. good luck!!! kathi --- Jenna and Rob <7wonderfulblessings wrote: > Does anyone here suffer from Celiac Disease, or > cooking for a family member with it? Guest guest
Jenna, If you have health insurance, I would say go to your doctor and have the blood work done and then they'll do a biopsy. That's the gold standard for diagnosing CD. I was diagnosed 3 years ago. It took awhile for docs to figure out what was wrong with me, but once we did and I switched to a gluten-free diet, I started feeling much better almost immediately. A great book that was published earlier this year is called *Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic* by Peter Green (who is also the director of the Celiac Center at Columbia Univ) is very informative. There's so many great resources out there. This group is also full of very knowledgeable people (especially with cooking!). Guest guest
Wow, that really does look like a great book. Thanks for mentioning it. Based on your recommendation and the glowing reviews (and a peek inside) at Amazon.com, I ordered it immediately. Looking forward to reading up and trying to convince my doc to order the blood test. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " Marie Nelson " <marie.nelson wrote: [...snip...] > A great book that was published earlier this year is called *Celiac Disease: > A Hidden Epidemic* by Peter Green (who is also the director of the Celiac > Center at Columbia Univ) is very informative. Guest guest
She does have insurance, but it is through her college. It isn't the worst, but it isn't the best either. We will have to see what they are willing to cover. The books sounds great! We will have to check it out while she is here for XMAS break. Thanks so much.
