Guest guest
Hi, My son loves pediasure, but it has dairy in it. I was wondering if anyone knew of a ready to serve drink that had the same kind of nutrient portions but was vegan and gluten free. He is going to have surgery soon and will not be able to eat much. Guest guest
Crystal--I would make my own protein drinks, and bring them to the hospital, or give them to him afterwards at home. Use his favorite " milk " (soy, rice, cashew, whatever), and blend with his favorite fresh or frozen fruits. Add some nut butter, protein powder, Brewer's yeast, soy yogurt, tofu chunks, or anything else you feel he'd tolerate. My kids LOVE it when I make them these " shakes " . Who needs that commercial garbage, loaded with toxic corn syrup or artificials? Marilyn

Old habits die hard. Thanks for the correction! Marilyn

Marilyn In the US, some nutritional yeast products are labelled as brewer's yeast. Gayelord Hauser's brewer's yeast is actually nutritional yeast, grown on molasses. It's gluten-free (and soy-free). Now, sometimes brewer's yeast really *is* spent brewer's yeast. That's why we get to call 800 numbers and ask. ygg
Guest guest
Although true brewer's yeast is not gluten free, a number of nutritional yeast makers now intentionally mislabel their products as brewer's yeast (BY is spent yeast from barley and making beer, NY is mostly grown on molasses). You have to check to see which was used on these mislabeled product (don't just trust a " gf " label, as the tests out there don't look for barley). > > > Not Brewer's Yeast. It's not gluten free.
