Guest guest
Hello! I am getting ready to move to the mid-west where there is no whole foods or trader joes. Yes, I am spoiled here in Northern Virginia. My daughters drink almond milk because they are soy intolerant. I was thinking about purchasing a machine to make my own since I am unsure if I will be able to buy it there. My questions are: 1. Do you think that it will be cost effective to purchase a machine and make my own milk? Especially since almonds are pretty expensive to begin with. 2. If I were to make my own (and this is probably an ignorant question but...) how do you fortify it? Would I just purchase some sort of powdered calcium with vitamin D to add to it? Thanks for helping? Guest guest
Where in the midwest are you moving? I have been able to find almond milk almost everywhere, even regular grocery stores, but it's a little trickier to find the unsweetened. I'm in Texas, which is not known for healthy foods, and it has taken some time to locate various items I prefer. We still have to drive to a major metropolitan area to do serious shopping, but only need to do that once a month. It has become more of a fun day of shopping, rather than a chore, since I also hit the big fabric stores, craft stores, book stores, and other shopping. If you smile and ask nicely, your local HFS will often carry an item for you if you use it regularly. I have requested certain organic foods, and have now been told they can hardly keep up with the demand! Jeanne

Guest guest
Thanks everybody for your enlightening answers : ) We do currently use Pacific Almond Milk. But it is pricey at the regular grocery stores. At Trader Joes, it is $1.79. At Whole Foods, $2.79. I think it is closer to $3 at the regular grocery store. I have 2 little ones that drink it and can go through a quart a day at least! So, what I have learned is that I can make their milk cheaper than buying it AND I don't have to worry about supplementing it. Thanks again to everyone! To those who do make their own milk, can you suggest a good machine to make it? The best for the buck kind of one? Tara
Guest guest
Isn't Marshall a town. I thought that was the town Lady E lived in. Is it a store? We used to have a Marshall Field's store, so I wasn't sure. That's great that you don't have any trouble finding things Carloyn. As I recall though Lady E has a few more restrictions, and now she has to worry about multiple chemical sensitivity too.
