Can bran flakes be used instead? Hi Renee, There are several things you can use in recipes to substitute for bread crumbs. As long as they aren't 'wheat, rye, barley, or oat' bran flakes, they should work well. I also use: gluten free cracker crumbs cooked rice or millet (prepare so it's not mushy, but on the dry side) And. . .I save the ends and disasters of gluten-free bread baking, crumble them on a baking sheet, and then dry them out in a warm oven (about 200 degrees) for an hour or two. Then I bag them up into zip-locks and put them in the freezer until I need them in a recipe. Sometimes ground nuts or seeds would work well also. Hope this helps! Guest guest
two companies make prepared GF breadcrumbs if you need them, but gf corn flakes work too, as do gf rice krispie type cereals. Bran flakes would have gluten. BL

Guest guest
We live in Oregon. Does anyone know where to purchase boxes or bags of breadcrumbs that are gluten free? **If you can find them, they are quite expensive. Either that, or what is the best and least expensive bread to use for breadcrumbs? Thanks for any help. (I cook for a family that is not gluten intolerant, but would like to use products for my meals that are GF.) Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. Guest guest
I live in Oregon. I purchased " brown rice " breadcrumbs awhile back. The brand name is Hol-Grain and I believe I got them at Wild Oats. I generally only shop at New Seasons and have never seen bagged/boxed breadcrumbs, however, Whole Foods seems to have lots of stuff. There's also a place in Vancouver, Wa called Lingonberries and it's gluten-free it's off 117th off of i-205 that you might check out. www.lingonberriesmarket.com Otherwise, you can get brown rice bread at Trader Joes. It's $2.99 a loaf. Honestly, it's the best gluten-free bread I've bought at the store. The only downside is that since it doesn't have any preservatives it lasts about 5 days (even when refrigerated). Marie =) On 10/5/07, Pam Retzlaff <pamretz wrote: > > We live in Oregon. Guest guest
Thank you SO much for the information. We do have a Trader Joe's, and I have wanted to find a whole grain bread rather than a white gf one, so this is good to hear. : ) Thanks again, Pam Looking for a deal?
