Guest guest
Hi, I'm a newcomer to veganism, and to this list. I'm also low carbing by necessity, as I'm diabetic. As I'm trying to make a book of recipes from online resources, I see a number of them that sound delicious, but require sour cream. Is there a vegan version of sour cream? Any idea where I might find it? Brand names or anything? Thanks, mj MJ Harper mjoharper ****************************
Guest guest
Tofutti's " Better than Sour Cream " and " Sour Supreme. " THe sour supreme does not state the origin of the sugar in it. But Better Than Sour Cream is organic sugar-sweetened, I believe. http://www.tofutti.com/ss.shtml Both are made from soy. If you're new to veganism, do you know about sugar? Most sugar is bone char filtered. You want to look for evaporated cane sugar, beet sugar, organic sugar or other non " sugar " sources in the ingredients. If it just states sugar, it's probably bone char filtered. ) Nichole Mary Jo Harper <mjoharper wrote: Hi, I'm a newcomer to veganism, and to this list. Thanks, Nichole, for the sour cream recommendation, I'll check it out. As for the sugar, being diabetic, I need to limit carbohydrates fairly strictly. Carbohydrates are what drives up blood glucose levels, which when elevated overmuch and/or overlong, cause diabetic complications. So sugars, by and large, are something I avoid except in small amounts. If anyone knows of a resource for both vegan and low carbohydrate recipes, would love to know! mj
