Guest guest
Just had to stop by real quick and tell you all about the wonderful birthday presents I got on Friday. Not every single item conforms to my preferred way of eating (lowfat vegan and gluten free), but I can certainly get lots of ideas from them, and adapt what I want, and feed my family some of it that maybe I can't have because they don't need to be GF. I got a beautiful nursing nightgown, custom made, and it is BEAUTIFUL! All the rest of my presents are nutrition-related, which is so cool! I got set 2 of Marcella Lynch's vegetarian cooking videos. And I got all these books: The Vegan Diet as Chronic Disease Prevention by Kerrie Saunders The Joy of Vegan Baking by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau The Gluten Free Vegan by Susan O'Brien Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell B. Esselstyn The China Study by T. Colin Campbell Greens Glorious Greens! by Johnna Albi & Catherine Walthers Every one of these books looks AWESOME, and I can't wait to sit down and really go through them! Marilyn **************Start the year off right. I've already told him I wanted to go through the recipes TOGETHER, and pick out some he can enjoy. And I pointed out that in Dr. Esselstyn's book, the last recipe is for Oatmeal Maple cookies--something dh is VERY enthusiastic about! LOL! Marilyn **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
I got The Joy of Vegan Baking for Christmas and have tried probably 10 or more recipes so far, and am loving it. Everything has turned out wonderfully. I loaned it to a vegetarian friend and she tried a couple of recipes and also read the info at the beginning, and now wants to make more effort to cut out eggs and dairy -- and she went out and bought a copy of it too. The same friend borrowed The China Study from me and said it's a real page-turner and she finds herself wanting to buy copies for herself and the rest of her family and friends. I felt the same way when I read it. Has anyone got Veganomicon yet? I've read some fantastic reviews for it. I told my husband if he wants to get me a treat for Valentine's Day, that's something the whole family would end up enjoying. Guest guest
I do not have Veginomicon yet, but need to order it. I made the chickpea cutlets from it for dinner last night and just finished up a cutlet sandwich for lunch. Yum! So nice to have a " burger " w/out soy For dessert I had a banana choc chip muffin (recipe from Joy of Vegan Baking). Funny...I never used to cook, but LOVE to now - if only I had more time! Guest guest
Thanks for your little plug, Heather. I will definitely get it soon! I do have Veganomicon and it's a great cookbook. Sort of more time-consuming, upscale dishes than Vegan With A Vengeance (their previous cookbook) but a definitive cookbook with some show-stopper type recipes as well as more casual, simple ones. It's worth the investment, I think. Marla Rose > I got The Joy of Vegan Baking for Christmas and have tried probably 10 > or more recipes so far, and am loving it. Guest guest
I've seen that baking book and have considered buying it, and it sounds from these reviews that I must as soon as it's possible for us (car snafu, I can't work so things are tight around here till we get this sorted out). I have the Veganomicon, and I Love love LOVE it. My husband cooks from it. I just made the Mac Daddy (mac n 'cheese') and it was very yummy. I love the cutlets, I always make at least a double batch for lunches during the week, too. I wish I could make enough to freeze so we could just pull them out for dinners, sometimes too. My husband makes the seitan in there (I can not boil mine to save my life, baking always works better for me for some reason, but he can boil it LOL). I also came downstairs the other day and it was out, he'd been reading it the night before. everything we've tried/had from it has been amazing. I know we've made some other things from it as well - I made the lemon bars in the back, before they were in the book - for a friend's daughter's birthday (she requested it, and I offered to make them so we could also have them - they were a HUGE hit - and the other vegetarian family that was there was so happy their son could have them, as were the others who had severe allergies to something in the original/regular ones - so they were a hit all around - especially with the b'day girl!) Guest guest
I have the veganomican, and vegan cupcakes take over the world- haven't gotten the joy of vegan baking yet- are there any gluten-free recipes in it? Guest guest
I don't think there's much GF in it, since it's mainly baked goods and isn't focused on GF. It is a large book and has a really nice assortment of things. Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World has two GF cupcake recipes in it that I have made a couple of times for my two relatives who have Celiac, and they tasted very good even to those of us accustomed to regular wheat cupcakes.
